    The Coffee Thread

Tell us - what's your caffeine addiction? Cause I know you all can't be posting 9000 posts a day without something to keep those fingers typing 175 words a minute.

You a straight up cuppa joe kinda person? if so, how many a day?

Double decaf soy latte (otherwise known as the "why bother?")

Double half caf mocchichinolatteaulait with sprinkles?

Earl Grey tea with milk and honey?

Mate, for our South American travellers?

    what gets you going?

I like to fill a travel mug with five or six shots of Kona and if I'm feeling sluggish, I'll use caffeinated water. Other times I'm good with gas station swill.

Long as it's strong, hot and black, it's all good. I like my coffee like my wimmin.

My preference is a grande Café Mocha (like that, Iceman?)

But considering I'm saving to move, I don't need to be spending $20-$25 a week on coffee.

I'm now an instant coffee afficionado. GIANT brand Instant Coffee. It claims to have a hearty, rich flavor. I've been told tripe does too. 2-3 cups a day.

Everybody needs something to believe in. I believe I'll reload my cup now.

As much dark roast, black, from one of those Kuerig (sp) single cup brewing things as I can hold.

I get free coffee ... they get a chemically altered zombie. It's all good!

Trader Joe's Bay Blend baby.....it's extra, extra dark - add a little milk once coffee gut strikes.

Low Acid French Roast for those more tender moments when the GF is sucking down a little joe too.

    [coffee snob]
The Roasterie in Kansas City puts out the best beans ever!!!! (I miss that stuff)

Thing about living way the fuck up here... coffee needs to be brewed at about 190 (give or take)... so auto machines boil (212) the water and let it move and cool before it hits the grounds... the water here boils at about 193 so it always hits the coffee too cold and underextracts! GRRRR! The only way to do it right is to french press and pout the boiling water directly in... but I hate french press (sludge in the bottom... maybe I just need a good conical burr grinder)

Still trying to make this POS espresso machine work

Those machines rule. I've got one. I like the Ethiopian Sidamo, Black early and often. All day long, all day strong.

Shoe - that sounds a bit like this amazing thing I had at *cough, whisper* starbucks *cough* yesterday. Java Chip frozen drink. Damn. Who needs lunch when you've got solid (literally) coffee drinks out there? It was soooooooooooooooo good. Glad I don't often have a sweet tooth - not sure I could sustain that habit.

who said instant coffee? blech. I mean, not there's anything wrong with that....

I've actually got a jar of instant coffee from Brazil which does fine in a pinch.

I used to be a coffee and beer snob, but then I realized it's better to live life simply with an open mind so as to not limit one's options, and also that no one likes a snob.

Morning brew = Peet's original blend, 3 equals, stir.

    Mid-day = Starbucks Venti-Iced Non-fat Latte, 3 splenda, shake, w/ straw.

Evening = homemade cappachino, 2 shots Lavazza Espresso Roma, soy milk (because it never goes bad), froth, mmmmmmmm.

I rarely drink coffee. It tears up my stomach in the morning, and I'm not someone that has a weak stomach. Plus I like the mindlessness I usually exhibit for the first few hours of the morning. It's a relaxing, albeit unproductive, start to everyday.

That said, I love the occasional cup of joe after dinner. A nice espresso or cappuchino. But my favorite is a nice Columbian roast, black. My friends' restaurant down in Sayulita, Mexico has awesome coffee. I can't wait to have some in a few weeks.

Well, a snob might like a snob. or would a snob be too snobby to recognize they're own snobbishness as a desirable trait? that word has now lost meaning - I said it too many times.

Uh...skier666 just what is in that cup?

My poison of choice is double Cuban expressos made in the old-fashioned cafeteras with or without milk and sugar. Either way...WOW what a buzz.

    Sprite

    stove top espresso

I've tried a bunch, if you like this method get an Alessi -no leaky and perfect brew every time.

Plunge-pot fans who don't like the sludge, buy a decent conical burr grinder. It will cut way down on the sludge. Best way to make coffee in my opinion but I'm usually too lazy.

Next to skiing, I spend more money on damned coffee than anything else. ahh, coffffffeeeeeee.
