    Mt. Rose

I ski kirkwood normally and I met a guy who was raving about Mt. Rose. What do people think about Mt. Rose? Is it worth checking out?

Short answer, yes. Chutes are pretty rocky these days, might want to wait until we get a bit more snow to get a real taste of it. Definitely SEARCH, there are a number of folks here that ski Rose so there's a bunch of info out there.

when the chutes are open this is probably one of the best resorts for storm day skiing. not much for cliffs though, just steep and deep.

Good terrain, light snow, and 2 fast ass chairs to access the entire mountain.

Get there early on a pow day and lap like hell cause unless it's steady/dumping all day, the whole place is shot out by 10:30.

Mt. Rose is really Ski Reno, and it sucks.

Squaw Valley is the place to go!! Go there.

rose is definitely the local reno spot. it used to be more of a mix, but the past couple of years seems to be mainly reno locals. but it's usually a good group of skiers/riders. and if you are willing to venture to the edges, you can find fresh snow until after noon in bounds. a negative would be that other places have as nice skiing, stay more protected than that peak, and even offer OB access. but aren't these choices personal? i'll take a good day, stormy, sunny, or anything at alpine meadows over anyplace.

+: fast lifts (except the Chuter)
+: Chutes are legit steep terrain if they're open
+: midweek lift ticket deals (check the site)
+: friendly to day skiers...close in parking, cheap food, etc.

-: fast lifts = gets skied out very quickly, especially on weekends, when every student in Reno is there
-: usually gets blasted by wind, deep days are relatively rare
-: gets less snow than the resorts on the Crest
-: parking lot fills up on sunny weekends and you have to turn around and go somewhere else

    Mt. Blows (Rose)

Have Skied Mt. Rose since 1993. Like Reno, the biggest little ski resort in the world. Chutes are da bomb, next dumping and they will be going off, think Alf's. Good coverage this year. Great tree skiing. Great Views. Good OB access. Parking lot to top of the lift in 15 minutes. Great events, laid back partying folk, honies at the bar. All down hill back to Reno.

It's worth it, check it out, and yes, if its tracked up by 10:30, fine, just walk across the street for some Mt. Rose Wilderness BC action, or drop off slide mtn 4000 vert to the valley floor.

Windy, could be, but in a real Sierra storm Alpine and Squaw will be hammered shut, closed, while the East bowl of Rose will be open with 2 feet of fresh and the sun breaking through.

Don't care about the negatives as I ski in Hell if that's what's open.

    Not Squalleyworld.

    Slide Mt.

I had a Rose pass last year and skied there each of my three seasons in Tahoe. Without the Chutes, you are left with some glade skiing (which does track out fast) on East bowl and Rose side. Worth checking out, but don't expect to improve on K-wood or Alpine. Plus, Reno chicks put out...

are you talking about the BC of Mt rose or are you talking about the resort, if your talking resort dont waste your time... the only area thats good, chutes isnt open that often and when it is its trashed in the first hr. BUT if your talking about the BC of the real Mt Rose then your talking some killer runs and some places where you can link quite a few runs wile not hiking much.
