    Pop up camper shells

Saw a guy driving back from the ski area yesterday with a pop up camper shell. Not a full size camper, just a shell with a pop up roof. Couldn't get close enough to figure out what brand it was and can't find any info on the internets.... anybody know who makes such a thing?

found this: http://fourwheelcampers.com/ but i think it's a bit more than what you're referring to.

I believe Wildernest campers have stopped production years ago. They are hard to find. I also heard that the patent is for sale and there maybe an opportunity to pick it up and start manufacturing these under a new entity.

I haven't looked into this for a couple years so someone may have jumped on it already. I do agree it is one of the coolest innovations out there.

This is the modern version of the Wildernest: http://www.flippac.com/

It doesn't look as cool, but flipping forward is sorta space-efficient.

alaskans are the shit when it comes to truck campers. kind of spendy (around $20k), but the best always is.

I like how the Flip Pac is lower, and it goes over the cab instead of to the side. It's still more than what I'm looking for though. Does anyone make one that just pops up like a Westy or something like this: http://www.countryhomescampers.com/g.../poptopup.jpg? Just something to give you an extra few feet so that you're able to stand up.

    big fan of the pro-camp

slept in one a few times last season at events, there is an extra lining you can put up to keep the heat in. the only down side was trying to get in (an up the ladder) after too many shots.

    Alaskan's are sweeet.

Probably going to end up with a 4 Wheel or All Terrain due to weight and cost.

I have had a 2000 Four Wheel Hawk for several years. Nice rig for one to two people, lightweight (<1000 lbs.), simply equipped and sturdy. Great trailhead camper and white trash lift ski area parking lot rig. Alaska campers are nice, but much heavier.

Ok, i just saw one that that the OP is asking about in Jackson. Damn near chased the dude down, but was on my way somewhere. Just like he said, looks like a standard fiberglass shell, with a top that pops up. C'mon, nobody here knows about those??

Oh man I've been drueling over the FWC Eagle for years. Looks like I'll just stick to the velcro, duck tape, and 1 inch insulation inside the topper.

    Congrats mtnlion, that is exciting!

Here's my rig. 2000 Four Wheel Hawk, loaded (furnace, stove, Fantastic Fan, Arctic liner), on a 1998 F-150 X-Cab 4x4 with a 4.6 Triton. Hard to find used FW campers -- I live in Seattle, looked for months and eventually bought the Hawk in Santa Clara, CA for $4500 in 2004. It's been a great rig. A few leaks (fixed with silicone sealant) and just got a new fridge. Also got a Honda EU1000 generator for extended trips.

About 1/3 of camper use is for skiing, both at trailheads and resorts (sometimes at Alpy Lot 3 Ghetto), other 2/3 for climbing and ultras. Great rig for one or two. Three is a squeeze. Primitive enough to not feel like a real RV pig. 15-16mpg if I drive in 2WD with a light foot, 13 mpg winter w/ lots of 4WD use.

I'm pondering getting a smaller truck, perhaps a Toyota, and building a flat bed with quick-change fixtures for the camper. If only I could find the time. . . .

scored a 1984 4-Wheel pop-up for $500 yesterday - it's in good condition, with all of the bells and whistles (for 1984): stove, heater, fridge, sink, etc... - I might end up having the top refurbished eventually, and I am definitly going to do something solar for power - should be perfect for Krystal Kartwright and Owen and I

    hells yeah!

Wow, sounds like a screaming deal. Welcome to the club. The Wanderthewest forum (see mtnlion's post) is a great resource for FWC parts and lore.
