    How tight are your boots?

Just bought my first pair of alpine boots in a LONG time. Two sizes smaller than my street shoes, in anticipation of pack out. Half size up is the next shell size, and I'm worried they'd pack out too much. Not looking forward to the next two weeks in these.

How tight are/were your new boots?

New Kryptons, down from 27,5 to 26,5, just molded them. Hella tight, to the point of being claustrophobic. No real pressure points though. (I think, haven´t skied them yet...)

sounds like you're in the ballpark, wear an 11.5 running shoe - have 27.0 salomon falcons (around a 9 1/2).

9 street shoe and I'm in a 25 (7) Solly Impact. They're tight, but blew the toes out a touch and they feel great.

Yikes, that's tight. I'm like a 12.5-13 street shoe and wear a 29.5 solly boot that fits good, though I could probably have gone 29.0 since it'd be the same shell size but with a thicker liner and I have a fair amount of wiggle room right now.

    29 for a 11.5 - 12 shoe size.
ie tight, but not so tight that I can't walk without losing a toenail...

Edit : Wow, how can you fit in your boots, guys ?! No way I could cram my toes in anything shorter than a 29 (Salomon Impact 10). I suspect many of you wear too big street shoes.

    I wear an 11 shoe, and my Scarpa Denali's are 8.5 - 9 shells. My Full Tilts are 27.5 / 310 mm.

    Tight like a tiger!

Size 29 (11) Kryptons, size 15 street shoes. Admittedly, the street shoes are a tad roomy, but combine a thin liner and teach your feet to compress and it works.

12.5-13 street shoe & my Krypton Rampage in a 29.5 is perfect. Like that they are narrow in toebox.

Wear a 11 street shoe and My Krypton Rampages are 29.5 336mm sole. With a hearty pair of socks they fit like a glove. Stand on my tips no proab, no movement at all.

Damn, if I could only have back all the money I spent as a JONG buying boot shells that were too big... ug. Yeah, I too came to the realization that my 11.5 street shoes are a 27 scarpa shell.

size 10.5 us street shoe, 23.5 Nordica superchargers with thick socks and footbeds.

no, seriously, how the f do you guys shove your feet in such small boots. I think I followed all of the necessary steps... bare foot in just the shell, finger test, etc. and got what I think is the smallest shell I could bare (actually a 27). I can't even get my bare foot into a 26 shell without bleeding? So how are you guys jamming your feet into shells several sizes smaller than street shoes? KY?

remove the liner and you want 5-10mm behind your heel and the back of the shell, Don't worry about what number your shoes are, or what number the boots are.

Ignore the numbers. Take out your liner. Put your foot in the boot. Move foot forward until longest toe touches lightly. Check space between heel and shell. Should be no more than 2cms (2 fingers) and no less than 1cm (1 finger). There are lots of other factors, but that will let you know if you're in the right length shell.

Edit: mtnlion beat me to it, but I think .5cm is too small unless you are blowing out for one long toe or have such a low volume foot that even plug boots aren't tight in the right length.

I'll have to quote my friend's new answer to this question when she finally saw the light on proper boot fit.

    your a pussy
46 (12) in a dobi wc 150 in 9.5 us (eu8) with a super wide foot. A couple of punches and i am all set.
If you ski over 30 days a yr and are not downsizing 1 size, you are doing your self a diservice and really are missing any feel for the ski
do yourself a faovr and get some tighter boots
fyi, in 95% of all ski boots, the half and whole size are the same shel, liner and a different foot bed, so a 29 AND 295 ARE THE same.
STROLZ, and older raichles made different liners on the half size. Dont know of anyone doing it now, but you might want to pm rontele, i head he will know

I wear size 11-13 shoes, and my ski boots are 10. I get a black toenail every year, and then I stay out of the backseat
