Scarpa Denali Shell size 28 vs 27/29

Maybe it's been discussed before, I can't find good information on this though.
    I was measured to be a shell size 28 for Scarpa boots, I wear 11.5 street-shoe size, sometimes a 12, sometimes an 11. I have medium-width feet...

Question is ... Can I buy a 27 or 29 Scarpa Denali and have it fitted well enough to my foot, even though I was told at the store that 28 is my size? I ask because no-one locally has Denali's anymore, and there's a dude on ebay selling brand new ones for a sweet price, but has only a 27 and a 29 left.

    i am a 10.5 to 11 and ski 27's.

you could prolly squeeze into a 27 with some grinding, punching, and custom liners, but don't go for a 29. and at all the cost of proper fitting, they'll ski well and such, but why not just buy boots that fit the first time?

Last I looked Scarpa shells change differently from most, that is Scarpa 27.5 and 28 are the same shell. Ie. a scarpa 27 is probably smaller than some other boot shell 27.
I measure 10.5 on those store shoe sizing devices, and ski 27/27.5 solly alpine boots and 27.5/28 scarpa ski boots.
I think an 11.5 street shoe will feel rather snug in a scarpa 27.

Confirmed. I have 27.0 TT's and they're the same size as the 26.5s (306 mm sole). 27.5 = 28.0 (313? mm sole), see if you can find 27.5s. Did you call that shop in Avon? I could help facilitate a delivery if need be.

The stock liners are junk, imho, Intuitions really help in those boots.

I run Scarpas 27.5 but put in the new Intuition liners at size 11. Had them custom molded and they are amazing. My street show size is either 9.5 or 10 depending on shoe.

Wow- seems like there is a huge variety of what people are wearing in street shoes vs Scarpa size. I am a US size 11 in just about every company out there for street shoes. My Euro size is 44.5 in many companies including the many Sportiva shoes/boots/mountaineering boots I have. I ski Sally 27.5 Alpine Boots.

I just got fitted for Spirit 4s at 2 separate locations and fit pretty well into a 26.5s- both places said I should go with 26.5. I've got about 5/8s to 3/4s of an inch in the back with the liner out and my toes just barely brushing the front of the boot. I just ordered 26.5's...

More than anything I'm worried about ski boots being too big- the idea that you can punch/grind but not make smaller. With that being said, I hate the idea of losing toenails in an AT boot like I do in my Alpine boots. I'm a little worried after hearing Marshal skis a 27, but hey- it is only a half size, right?

ignore the street vs boot size thing

    1) you need a shell fit of 5-15mm.

    2) scarpa does do the reverse 1/2 size from the rest of the world. 27.5 & 28.0 = same shell, and 28.5 and 29.0 = same shell

Depends on your feet. Denalis are much lower volume than other scarpas I've tried. 28.0 Denali /w the stock intuition liner is -SNUG- everywhere on my feet /w a little space at the toe. 27.0 Matrix and my feet are swimming in 'em. 26.0 Matrices are better.

How low can you go, is the question.

Wow. Awesome replies, thanks so much people!
I didn't call that shop in Avon yet, cell phone is busted, gotta swing by my office to call from there I did drive by Wilderness Sports in Silvethorne, guess what, their outlet store has 2 pairs of 28.0 shell size Denali TT's for $475 ... !!! Kinda expensive for being last year's model, I guess, although 200 bucks cheaper than Tornado's. I'm going to wait for cowdog who's coming to Boulder tomorrow with a pair of used 28 shell Denali's and decide then ..

... trouble now? I tried those 28 Denali TT's at Wilderness today, LOVED the fit, incredibly comfortable, very soft when in walk mode, I can see how they can be awesome touring boots. However, they seemed a little soft in Ski mode - significantly softer than Endorphin's or even Scarpa Tornado's. They seem to be rather stiff in the longitudinal direction, but flex out laterally quite a lot when loaded.

Hmmmmmm.... Maybe the Spirit 4's are stiffer laterally?
