You don't think I knew that to begin with?
Seriously please TRY a little harder to tell me something I don't already know.
It should be easy considering how dumb I am right?![]()

This is not your thread.
That said, I have little further to contribute, other than that "criticism" is actually spelled that way, not "critisizm." That's gangsta style, yo. Well I guess the following somewhat antiquated, second-hand snow report might be of use...
The word from my ski team coach last week was that on a near-TL pitch of about 25 degrees, SE aspect, total snow depth was 90 cm, and the bottom 30 cm was entirely depth hoar. He was teaching an avy class, and those results were from the one pit he dug. At the same time, his partner in teaching dug a pit on an aspect that differed maybe 10 degrees to the east and may have been just a teensy touch steeper, and they saw very similar results in the pit and triggered a small fracture (~10 ft wide, ~40 cm deep) that moved several feet. It was a small slope and not that steep, so I'd be a little wary of deep instabilities out there. Don't think the cold temperatures are making things any better, either, but that's just armchairing, now ain't it?
Edit: soreass, for which one of you guys is the rockpile named? Ever since I've been around that area (i.e., not that long), I've thought of it as Gaffneys', not Gaffney's. Valid reasoning, or did one of you guys win the rights to it? If so, I'm sure there's a good story to go with it...?

if anyone has a picture of the 22' crown in second creek, i'd really like to see that.
You are right this is not my thread it's a communtiy thread so I'm sorry if I was being out of line, it just seemed that the thread took a change of direction (where most people wanted to attack my judgment). I agree it's not right and I have thought about deleting my posts pertaining to anything other then stoke. I am ashamed that I got lured into this BS as I'm just here for stoke anyway(which is what this thread should be used for).
Who really want's to read a bunch of people bitching at each other (page 3 in general)?
On another note I agree with damn texan about wanting to see some pics of that fracture it sounded crazy. Maybe that would put the thread back on track.
Sorry again for cunting up the thread as that's the last thing I want to do.
Can we all try to get along now?

slidy and variable up there today. rush is ready snow depth wise, but i bailed after getting it to move with a ski cut.

Bert was warmer this morning that we expected although not balmy by any standards. The snow was super variable and very slidey. Marsh and I kicked off a couple small slabs just above and skiers left of Nitro.
On generally all aspects we were on (skin up Westside to Nitro area and then over to the 80s, southeast thru northern aspects) there was a wind-packed layer of newer snow averaging 6" on top of a hard wind-scoured surface. The new snow is not bonding very well at all with the wind-hammered layer below. This resulted in us releasing several small slabs of the new snow (averaging 30' wide) and running anywhere from 10 - 50'. It is also important to point out that especially on the eastern aspect such as above Nitro, the hard wind layer mentioned above is sitting on mainly unsupportive, unconsolidated snow, which could easily result in much bigger and deeper crowns as more weight is added.
I've got more suits than Liberace, but less than Eastvailhucker.
oh to clarify: we were above rush2 not rush - the terminal slot that is a mandatory 30 footer. we then traversed over to nitro and skied it out.
