Walk or bike in the canyon from Golden to the end of the new bike path. If you’re walking, cross the river on a suspension bridge then walk back on the Welch Ditch trail. It’s really cool. https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/...ch-ditch-trail

What GB said. Also just taking a walk through downtown and on the river trail on a nice day is quite pleasant. For more of a hike, depending if trails are dry (likely going to be a bit with the current weather):
-Apex Park (on an odd number calendar day for best hiking experience, even days are bike priority)
-Mt. Falcon
-Mt. Galbraith (hiker only)

No one has mentioned red rocks yet. I believe the visitor center/museum is currently call ahead to see if they are open due to construction. 2 days after upslope. good opportunity to trudge around on the trails and amphitheater with yak trax.

The best you can do with 70 is play the odds and cross your fingers. Which is what you are doing.

But always keep in mind that 70 can be a shitshow at any time in either direction. Every one of us who drives it regularly has found ourselves looking at the other direction -- stuck in a massive backup -- and thought "where the fuck did that come from, on a Tuesday?" or worse, being in the massive backup thinking "what the fuck, it's a Wednesday at 2pm?"
