I can't get my picture to work but the smoke plume is pretty gnarly. There's also a fire up Little Cimarron Road off of highway 50. Hot, windy, and smoky. Could be ugly for the next little while.

We had a little thunderstorm at 6am,
just over the hill. Resulting in fantastic trail conditions and possibly, your fire.

Currently slightly smokey with winds out of the WNW. Supposed to be coming from UT. AQI 59.

Neil Francis is playing the free Snowmass concert tonight!

Blue River seems to be a shit magnet whether it is some guy chased through 3 counties who ends up crashing there and running into the neighborhood, or this psycho who was by what few accounts I heard, really fucking psycho. I'd never heard of him before, but there are 30K people in Summit

Smoke rolled in heavy to the 4 Corners last night. I think mostly from the new fire in the La Sals but Black Canyon probably isn&#39;t helping.</p>

AQI 155 here near Del Norte same as Telluride. Can't imagine running 100 miles in this. Looks like the smoke moved SE.

Fucked up shit. That girl worked with/for some friends of mine. Sad. Drugs and guns are a bad mix. Hope that guy gets thrown under the aligator alcatraz or some shit.

Rode up the Snowmass Gondi with a Forest Service Ranger from Carbondale. They've lost 40% of staff this year due to low pay.
Enforcement of anything is virtually zero.
She was monitoring all the construction, two new lifts and new restaurant.
Powderhorn is buying the old Elk Camp HSQ.
Sunlight couldn't get anyone to install the old Lenawee Lift.
Poma would only do it, if they also purchased a new lift.

Stuck on the Gondi today. 45 and counting.
Weather's nice, no smoke, a bit warm.

I thought the elk camp HSQ was going to replace the thunderbowl triple.

Possibly, but that not what the FS ranger said. She did say it's not a done deal.
It's not like Thunderbowl needs the capacity.

Not for capacity, but for racers getting more laps on Stapleton.

Interesting. Retiring the West End double at Powderhorn will forever change the tree skiing, but the new owners have already said it's happening.

The Black Canyon fire is still blowing up, it's definitely getting concerning. Montrose County is also currently without a county manager thanks to our inept radical commissioners, and it is evident in the lack of organization. A huge swath of farm/ranchland has been evacuated and they don't even have the fairgrounds (or anywhere else) for displaced people to go. Members of the community are stepping up big time to fill the gaps though.

In other news the breckenridge blue river murder is fucked. Was out of town this week so I've missed most of the rumor mill shit. Ill catch up on Monday w one of the neighbors and a buddy of his. Monday nights texts and rumors mademe think he offed his ex and kids.

Guys been through the ringer in the past few years. No excuse for what he's done but injuries and life stress can add up fast. Push anyone over the edge. Don't be that guy.

USFS in Summit is obsessed with "decommissioning trails" and they are doing it in a highly environmentally destructive way disturbing streams, topsoil, roots, and killing mature trees. Some trails they are decommissioning are isolating entire communities from trail systems that were community access, now requiring a drive to a crowded trailhead. Others trails are being "replaced" but the "replacement" is incomplete and the USFS put up signs saying anyone walking the incomplete trail "will be prosecuted."

That's right, they are destroying trails about 1 year before the "replacement trail" is supposedly going to open.

Asked why the "decommissioning" has to be so incredibly destructive, the trails ranger said that the most important thing was taking away anything that would attract people into the area. Keeping people out of the forest is more important than the health of the forest. WTF?

They are also putting up narrow gates everywhere with a bar 18" above ground height in the name of "keeping out ebikes" except they don't do that at all because emtbs can lift their bikes right over (not that there are many) just like a regular mtb. It makes it so all bikers have to dismount multiple times each trail ride to lift over the gates, and hikers have to step over.

It's fucking wrongheaded. It's a waste of taxpayer dollars for an agency that whines about being underfunded. Fuck USFS.

What trails are we talking about here? Seems like we need more trails, not less, for the growing population.

Silverthorne and Keystone neighborhood trails, and also Frog Trail. I'm assuming you can expect the same treatment for upcoming the back Ranch trail reroutes including Red Trail. Rangers who don't really bike and don't seem to care about trail user experience or the actual forest condition.

See also: Summit County Open Space is obsessed with closing their trail networks seasonally for elk, particularly the trails network that is bunded by US6, the dump, the shooting range, and the moto track. It's an open area where some elk occasionally go at night to bed, or rarely, during the deepest snow conditions (when humans avoid it), to eat. But the Open Space decided that they need to shut it all down 24-7 from December through mid May even though the area is dry and rideable into December and often as early as Feb or March. However, the surrounding areas aren't shut down to guns, front end loaders at the dump, semis on 6, or motos at the track. Just shut down to hikers, bikers, snowshoers, xc skiers, fat bikers...

It's what you get when you have granola hippies who can't think big picture believing that the taxpayer wants to suffer for the idea of saving sagebrush and coyotes (not kidding their master plan specifically calls out protecting coyotes) and ineffectually protecting Elk because the granolas don't know thing 1 about elk behavior. They are so granola they are writing public comment to USFS to close down USFS trails in Frisco to "save the elk!"

I have been at the gun range while a heard of elk was hanging out on the hill directly above the range. Like, lift your barrel a few inches and you'd have a trophy buck who was just chilling there with his ladies watching us shoot targets. That closure is complete BS and the window keeps getting smaller. The moto trails they keep building are pretty awesome though. Just wish they were open longer. I ride them a lot.

if they get there way there will be seasonal closures between keystone ranch and the dredge on tiger rd

that stuff is usually the 2nd area to open after the dump and frisco

blame it on the boulder card carrying Sierra club boomers who have nothing to do but complain to land managers all day long then keep up their ass until they get what they want you have no idea how relentless some of these boomer fucks are if you dont cave to them then they go above your head and keep complaining

was riding a trail in breck the other day, a legit connector trail rebuilt a few years ago for sustainability so many cucks in this county move here and think that open space and forrest service land is their property

my guess is the neighbor filled the trail in with logs and debris cause it was too close to his house I spent ten minutes tossing logs then reached out to open space they will no waste time explaining to this cock blocker that its not his property my old lady got into it with the neighbors who think that the forrest land is their land it was pretty funny at the end of the day and yes we will walk in the woods behind your house and use your private road for access

Ive heard that the current usfs land manager for scummit county is actually a great guy and rides dirt bikes see my comments above

and for fun there is a huge area that is getting reopened dirt bikers are in there tearing shit up again I love it its super tech trails and a hard to access area so the land managers are just turning their head the other way

    Re: Big Picture

No so much, its justify your own existence and hold on to your $100k+ government job

The preferred nomenclature these days is "Pussy Ass Moped" and if they wanted to actually regulate that they'd have a twig pig post up at the trailhead after brunch on a weekend and write tickets. But they don't becaused the monied Karen Class that embrace the newer softer Mountains Lite (tm) lifestyle are the exact user group of the Entitlement Bikes. I mean, you wouldn't want to actually get tired, dirty and sweaty before want Apres Ride Pimms and Lemonade.

Around here we seem to have turned the corner on the decommissioning. Now we actually get new trails and more sustainable trails. I still get lost every know and then from reroutes and disappearing trails.

I'm not really against the Ebikes on the trails. I rarely see anyone out there where I ride anyway, and they aren't like super secret trails or anything either. I think the threat is all just built up in people's minds. My neighbor is the 73 yo treasurer in the article below. He gives no fucks and does group rides on his Ebike with many people half his age on trails that he isn't supposed to be riding with an Ebike. https://www.summitdaily.com/news/sum...tain-bike-use/
