Anyone here getting on a river SUP? I’ve been waiting for flows on the blue to ease up. This might be the weekend, but probably not gonna go it solo unless drops a little more.

I talked today with someone who sup'd the Animas town run over the weekend. I'll probably do it soon, new river to me so I haven't figured out the flows yet...
I used to regularly sup the upper C at 1500-500 cfs when I lived that way.

Best part of the Animas to Sup is Oxbow down to 32nd bridge imo. But I ain't into whitewater SUPing so take that with a grain of salt. Below 29th to above the whitewater park is a good choice too. Used to tube that all the time below 1k without a life jacket when I was a stupid college kid. Either way, the river is gunna push into 3.5k+ today and maybe more tomorrow with all this rain. Could be a good time to hit that upper float when the sun pops tomorrow.

For the snow nerds, I always enjoy the CBAC's annual review. 70+ days last season at considerable or above. 9 people caught last season, compared to 7 for the past 2 seasons combined. Scary out there last year. https://cbavalanchecenter.org/wp-con...eport2024.pdf?

Glad to see A-Basin will be keeping Ikon to 5/7 days.

Parking reservations is going to be a PITA. Still no details there yet other than the unlimited parking passes will only be available to passholders. Break-even is 7.5 days, so I guess I'll have to pony up.

Yep and yep. Still don’t get if people get penalized for making a reservation and then not showing.

I read there will be a penalty if you have annual parking pass and a reservation that is not cancelled by 9am day of. Also, only 2 reservations per pass allowed at same time.

So rush to weekly booking as soon as window opens I guess. On the one hand it’s only a few days a year parking fills. But the perceived scarcity might drive people to book just in case, cancel day of. Like campsite reservations debacle.

So having a parking pass still requires a reservation? Sometimes don’t know til night before of even morning of if i can get up for some turns. I mostly ski weekdays but I also ski weekends. Still not stoked on this whole thing.

The spontaneity of it all is gone on weekends. Better plan every winter weekend out

I still might not get an Ikon this winter based on the parking pass bullshit alone.

You can still park at Keystone and take the bus up. I'll probably buy the parking pass though. We will see how it all goes.

I got a Mountain Collective this year to supplement A-basin. Gonna take some trips elsewhere.

The resort has made noise about this... not sure how they'll stop it but... taking the Stage from Keystone is a PITA.

So I assume will they have to check each vehicle going into the lots…won’t Rte. 6 backup like crazy?
And do you have to make an all day reservation, even if you want to ski 1-4 or something, on a Sunday, while everyone’s leaving?!

I don't think they'll need to check you as you drive in, they can just cruise the lot during the day and cite (tow?) cars that don't have reservations. Or have kiosks that you have to visit to register your car when you get there.

    Some answers on the website

"Reservations will be required between mid-December and early May before 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays, including April 1. A general parking reservation will be $20/car in all lots."
No resv needed after 1pm on weekends. But your might still need to pay $20? It's unclear.

"Reservations will be checked after you have parked through license plate recognition."
It looks like they will check plates after 9am.
"There will be free reservations available for uphill users between 6 am and 9 am. Guests staying past 9 AM are required to have a daily reservation."

"Parking will not require a reservation after 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays and will remain free during weekdays."

I have a feeling they will still require payment after 1pm but we'll see. They will have to do another scan of all plates in the lot though. Also not sure how they know when they scan your plate if you had 4 or more in your car. Will have to give you something on your way in to put on your dash.

Going to be a total shitshow no matter what. I'm guessing at least 25% of the folks rolling in on a given weekend will have no idea that reservations are required.

of course, there are no guarantees, but as I read it, a "parking reservation" costs $20, not "weekend parking". So if they say no reservation required after 1pm, that means parking is free after 1.

A general parking reservation will be $20/car in all lots.
A general parking reservation will cost $20/car in Early Riser, High Noon, Last Chance, and Upper Last Chance. . . . Parking will not require a reservation after 1 p.m. on weekends

Thinking about this is comical. Agree about people not having a clue about reservations until it’s too late. Shit will boil over at some point. Weekend resort skiing is just a joke at this point. Or at least Saturdays.
