Lenawee liftie told me they clocked a 55 mph gust. That would have been before 2pm.

Parts of the boat will be great tomorrow, if and when you can get to them. The other parts will be scoured and death crust. My hopes aren't high for the resort to get much of anything opened early tomorrow if this keeps up.

Of course Friday and Saturday will be tits, just in time for Texas week. Yee haw.

Seriously nuking, at least 30" at my house since 10AM. Lots of wind depositing. I heard 129 was knee-deep with cars piled in a ditch, couldn't drive home to Clark if you tried. Probably sketchiest drive I've had home in awhile with people screaming down from the hot springs as I was headed up towards home, no plow for hours. Finally feels like winter.

Wife and I were out of town over the holidays. Landed @ HDN on New Years eve, dug out the car, made it about 1/4 mi down hwy 40 before a Ford Escape in the oncoming lane started to pass a truck, lost it and started sliding all over our lane. They must have been going 55-60 mph. The way they were sliding it sure seemed like they didn't have snow tires. Luckily the rest of the oncoming traffic kept it together fine. This fucker kept matching my moves too and ended up stopped, lined up with me on the shoulder, about 20' off my front bumper. I thought I was going to have to bury the car in the berm to try and get out of their way. They were still sitting on the side of the road when we drove off. It would have been way satisfying to reach in their car, turn it off and chuck the keys off into the ditch. Fuck that person.

And ya it'll be a busy weekend but it almost always is nowadays. I know I'll still ski untracked pow laps and I'm just as happy to catch a few chairs in the p.m. and ski bumps...at least thats what I tell myself.

Maybe this snow will scare off some of the covid transplants

It has still been way too busy up here the last few days, but talking with a few folks who have chatted with tourists on the hill, they came this week since they knew last week is super busy. So pray for next week to slow a tad??

Oh well, pow morning at the basin!

Not if all of the roads are closed. Berthoud closed. 70 stopped at Stevens. Vail Pass closed and mitigation scheduled for this afternoon. Locals day, but of course staff might not be able to get there either.

Surprisingly I think the surface conditions were better with the lift. The opening was great, sure, but 2 days later when it's only partially skied up and all the old tracks are set up- I actually think it's better when it's a more uniform surface. Regardless, it sounds like they might be opening the actual lift soon. We'll see

What about the traverse? Last week it looked like it needed another foot or two.

There are employee shortages everywhere. But they also already shut down Sunshine for the week, so put those lifties at other places.

They have 2 employees clearing the snow stake cam when it's not supposed to be cleared until 4pm anyways. It's definitely about the optics. Get those guys to dig out storm first ffs.

Even on their website they are blaming the lift closures due to weather. I think it's both but....
