I laughed Micol, funny way to describe the scene.

Not skiing stoke, but did poke around RMNP (Hidden Valley sledding is sick on a 3” base) and got a decent view of the East Troublesome aftermath. Tons of trails still closed; you can drive to the Cub Lake TH and get a close up look at where the fire tore through Moraine Park and the Big T headwaters

Front range bro here (no Sprinter, unfortunately).

Wolf Creek was stellar all weekend, but this morning was the highlight. Skied all over the mountain yesterday and stuck with Alberta all day today. A couple 15 minute waits around mid-morning, but otherwise the line was fairly manageable. And we skied untracked snow basically all day (including on our last run at 2pm).

Snow was still flying when we left and wind was ripping up top meaning that Alberta and Knife were refilling basically every lap. Tomorrow should be excellent.

I don't think that would be the case with expanded terrain and added lifts.

Yep, yesterday was the busiest day I've ever experienced at WC........at least off Alberta Chair. Certainly the product of powder-starved CO skiers and $58 lift tickets on a Sunday. Waited in a handful of 15 minute lift lines.....not too terrible, IMO. That said, I too was finding deep turns until I bailed at 2:45.....whooped. A great day, overall.

I'm headed to Sheepshead Cabin back down that way for Thursday - Sunday.....looks like great timing for deep snow braaaping and skiing.

I believe it's around ~45" base depth to open parts of the Headwall and main North Face, but goldenboy can certainly better answer that. There's a difference between a 45" settled base depth in December and that same depth in late January that's mostly facet snow.

Lobo lot provided quite a bit of entertainment in the form of 2wd sprinter vans! Did some laps early Saturday and came back to an absolute clusterfuck at the lot. We were trapped while a stuck sprinter van tried to figure out how to put chains on for the first time ever. Glad we didn't have anywhere to be.

It's breathtaking and crushing how EXPONENTIALLY this kind of thing and these kind of people have just become an invasive species. In our neighborhood in the last 5-7 years, we've become surrounded on all sides by tech transplants from CA, NY & TX who constantly tell us what an absolute bargain front range real estate prices are. Ugggggg!

Sheepshead is going to be sick, have fun!

45" seems like a decent rule of thumb, although in recent years they've opened with a lot less. Website says 44" right now, but the rumor mill says they want another foot. Given the way West Wall is skiing, (fun but amazingly thin), another foot seems warranted.

I’d cross the larger towns in Montana off the list. I thought it’d take longer to become Front Range light but Covid fucked that all up.

    Colorado Weather Discussion Thread

Just here to say that the last three days at Wolf got better and better, but today was fucking ALL TIME. True, knee deep blowerville and a fraction of the people from the weekend. Was so much more snow than expected.

The 22-25” of hero snow under this additional 12-15” of fluff made for probably one of the best three day cycles of lift served in my entire life.

It was still snowing at 3:30pm when I left. I’d ski again tomorrow if my job didn’t decide I needed to be there to get a paycheck or something like that.

Everywhere you looked was basically this:

Bozeman is a total shit show. The other big towns are still pretty nice.

Today was fucking nuts at Wolf Creek. Waited in a line on Berta maybe twice before the hike-to opened. The turns off the top of Alberta peak proper were absolutely bonkers. Glad I skipped the locals weekend and only made it up from Durango today. Basically never waited in line and was skiing untracked hero snow all day. It dumped non-stop and the refills by the afternoon kept everything else buttery soft. You could do no wrong with this snow. I won't forget this day, ever.

Tomorrow might even be better, if that's possible. It's supposed to snow all night again LOL

It's been years since I've skied a cycle like this down here in SW. I'm almost stoked to have a mandatory rest day tomorrow (aka work).

Yup, today was fucking brilliant. Outstanding snow everywhere. Even the chopped shit in the upper bowls was so much fun.

I'm fixin' to ski all week, so bailed a little after noon.

I did manage to go over a covered felled tree which spun me ninety degrees and drove me into a partially buried stump. Nice gash on my thigh. Fun Times!

It’s not a “total shit show,” it’s just not where I’d be looking if I wanted to retire from the Front Range circus.
