My butthurt level is elevated. Can't believe we only got 4".
Vail says 6" on their site though. What are we talking about for tomorrow's mini-storm?

2" on the valley floor but that was an inch that melted then another last night. 6" on the hill. I think CB, the San Juans, and the northern Front Range will do the best with the next one. SW flow and upslope for the northern Front Range.
Sun/Mon-ish looks more exciting to me for EC right now.
18 degrees at the house this morning.

formerly an ambassador for a few others, but the ski industry is... interesting.
Fukt: a very small amount of snow.
Well montanaskier, at least Bama is sucking this year so now you have time to focus on overanalyzing something else that you have no control over, the weather.
Can't believe they lost to SC and LSU, at least we still have Auburn......
I'll clue you in on a little secret there JONG. Just like every other ski resort, Breck reports the depth at the snow stake. Sometimes there's less snow elsewhere on the mountain(due to wind), but more often than not, there's more snow up high than the official report. Go back to Jersey.

I'll be the first to admit my douche level was off the charts when I first moved to CO. I still love to bitch about the weather....I like to worry about shit I can't control "I'm a worrier...that's why they call me whiskers"
I said 9-3 and I'm ok with that. Lets ski this year.

Kind of irrelevant, but fine, I agree that it seemed equally over-stated all season last year.
And my comment was based on spending the 08/09 season in Breck and 2" often meaning a good 6-8" in the alpine. Last season, I was lucky to catch what they reported on a lee slope drift up there.
I actually don't give a shit, though. The point of this thread is to provide BETTER observations than a single number on a website. If anyone can share that, thanks. Otherwise...![]()
Just giving you a hard time, this is one of the more useful on TGR.
By my calculations: Me living in the high country again+La Nina+Just getting a new board and new skis for the wife=it's gonna snow a shitton and life will be good. Let's take advantage of it.
I also predict that Bama will beat Auburn and that will be completely unrelated to snowfall.![]()
Look, they received 8" new. When the storm was clearing out and going bluebird over in Eagle County, it was still snowing in Breck. There was 4" new in my yard in town last night, so I have no doubts that there was double that up on the hill. I guess it's easy to be skeptical when you can't see it snowing up on the hill from where you live and work. For the record, I've spent 15 years living, working and skiing here and the reporting last year was no different than any other. A whole season of "over reporting" isn't defined by the fewdays you experienced. You should probably move back to Jersey.

Old's Cool.
Bluebird today in summit co. Keystone reported 5", but it skied much less than that, and the crowds got out of hand at 10:30 for a wednesday, so I went to a-basin. It reported 4" and it skied WAY better than Keystone's 5".
Both places look more filled in than last January.

He probably gets hard when he finds a reason to call someone a JONG. Love the intellectual weather discussion guys!
I agree with JP. Breck is notorious for over-reporting snow amounts. If I had their tape measure, I'd make Ron Jeremy look like a prepubescent boy.
Case closed on the 8" at Breck - can't argue with a picture:

Hard to place the highest accumulations from the storm thurs, but a general line from the San Juans through CB through Summit Co. looks reasonable for a few inches, more in some spots.
A couple more inches on Sat/Sat night, and then a nice moist NW flow possible early next week. Details still sketchy, so not getting my hopes up yet. But if things work out OK, opening days at Vail & Steamboat could be pretty nice.

nothing but a dusting out of this storm overnight here...cloudy and not horribly cold this morning. I like this progressive pattern.

Only an inch or two in Breck this morning. Looking forward to the system moving in early next week. Bring it.
FWIW - Breck will open tomorrow with a few of the typical early season runs on Peak 8 off the Colorado Chair, but will also have 117 acres of hike-to-terrain in Contest and Horseshoe Bowl. That's a first for opening day, although opening day of the '02/'03 season (back when they opened Peak 9 first), we were skiing the E chair terrain.
