Is it just my inexperience or is the Jet Stream HUGE right now covering a large area of the US?

bit of a buzzkill last night. Not much snow at all. The reports were 13 and 15 and all of that fell in 3 hours yesterday. Radar returns are pretty nil at the moment. Not snowing now and unless it starts to fill in, it doesn't look like it will snow for awhile. Oh well.

NOAA got the totals right, just in the wrong order.

Dust layer is very obvious this morning from last night as well. Light snow now.

Funny how things change so quick. Word on the street is the snow is hard and the visibility bad right now at Vail. Last night would have thought I would be up before the sun ready to ski, but then the overnight didn't produce. Warm afternoon and cold morning threatened hardness not goodness. May be one of those days where the crack of 1:00 PM people are rewarded with a refresher from the snow that is coming down now.

When I went out and checked my car for overnight there was some seriously slushy icy brown snow in a hard 1/4 - 1/2" layer on my car, under an inch of whiter slushy stuff. The dust layer did hit the Vail area yesterday evening.

storm pretty much over in the high valleys. The mountain still appears to be socked in and dumping.

Enter a dry and warm period for a few days now. Tuesday looks like mid 50s before another system comes calling on Wed-Thurs. That storm looks even warmer so I would expect mostly rain in the valleys and the snow level to be around 9500.

I went for two runs, before my leg gave out.

It just is not fully healed yet.

    Some observations:

The bowls were pure cream cheese goodness, yeah there was dust but there was a great mix of new snow and softness, I did not feel any shitty layer of crust crud mank etcetera.

Also, even on one leg, and only a little pressure on my other leg. The motherships are the greatest ski ever made. Right next to the bros, i will be buried with both pairs.

oh well, another two weeks off for more healing in an aircast

but seriously, don't let the dust layer fool you, get out and grab some, if you love creaminess, you'll be in heaven.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Snowmass was great today. Snowed most of the day, and still snowing. The dust layer was very prevalent here with brown snow everywhere, though the new lighter snow that was coming down today was starting to hide it nicely.

Vail was unreal on friday. They reported 0" but it was puking. Proceeded to nuke from 8:00 to 11:00 and nobody was skiing. I think it probably snowed 8" or more in 3 hours. Then a really sloppy wet burst in the evening which plastered a pink layer everywhere. Today was decent.

pretty high snow levels with this next event. Snow should fall in the valleys after the front passes. Another dust event is possible as well. 4-6" up high is my guess.

Vail has a good base and worst case you won't be jumping mud puddles (there's multiple full runs open to both bases, no ribbon of death this year), just slush or refrozen groomers awaiting you everywhere. There's some decent turns to be had. Maybe we'll get lucky and get some fresh snow, but you know how that goes...

In better news I see more controlled burns. I'd send more of my taxpayer dollars to controlled burns in the winter. The fine particulate matter can't hurt our chances of more snow

The sky is orange here. If it snows again, we'll definitely have another dust layer, but at this point I'm not sure it will matter at all.
