HUGE dust event here to start things off That's not going to help anything, especially if this storm doesn't really dump some snow at some point. The snow seems pretty dry, too Basically this storm sucks almost as much ass as NW flow.

I think the dust event was everywhere.....on the way to the gym this morning every car in Eagle County appeared to be painted brown. I heart a NW flow.

So far, this storm has done nothing to improve conditions.

Today's report: 4" of windbuff on top of crusty moguls, with a nice thick layer of dust in between.

very springy stormy. Some short periods of snow. West of Vail in the 8000 elevation range... Wish I had been up on the mountain itself, but ...

Skied at Copper today...they reported 5 it was more like 3 and conditions pretty much sucked. There were a few spots where the wind had blown in more but all in all I'm with Funken...this storm did nothing to improve conditions. Copper needs a good foot to make things better.

snowing now and should for awhile this evening. Not what I had hoped for....it moved in and out pretty fast which limited accumulations. Not sure what Vail and BC got during the day. I will say that the winds are out of the NW and sometimes Vail can pick up a sneaky big amount with this type of system.

Wed night and Thurs still looks like a bigger storm than this one. I wouldn't get excited in the Elks or San Juans but the northern and central zones along with the front range could produce. Front range could go upslope on Thursday for big snow...we'll see.

edit to say I hate ALTA....20 more inches....

Also, here is an interesting new resource. I know it's caught on recently and been noted in the Blogs of a few local skiers.

Joel is a friend and avid skier. He has a degree in Meterology and access to a number of computer models. He used to publish his forecasts via email to just friends but has recently beefed things up a bit and opened it to anyone that wants to get it. It's free and he has a pretty good record. Anyway take a look and add your email to receive any updates. He does not make money on this endeavor, he's just really into weather, powder, and skiing.

    From CAIC:

"We are in the early stages of an active weather pattern, especially across the North and Central Zones. The system that brought the most recent snow has moved into NE Nebraska Tuesday morning. A second short wave moves into the Northern Zones today and the trough axis will run up and down the CO Rockies by Tuesday evening. This will give all zones a chance of snowfall through Wednesday mid-day, though it does favor the Northern Zones. Right behind this system a stronger storm moves SE and bee lines for the 4 Corners by Thursday evening. It is gaining some attention and could be a good snow producer. Models don't indicate much of a break between these systems."

    Fuck yeah.

Well Vail did not suck today. The lift lines were a bit long because of spring break, but I really enjoyed watching all the Texans searching for goggles and poles when they crashed in thigh deep powder.

Praise the Lord! we finally got some good snow. We love NWesterly in Vail

The frontside in general got more like 6-8", though it was much deeper right at PHQ. There was 14" or much more in the Bowls, could have been the 20"+ reported in the main forum.

I've never seen deposition patterns like this at Vail before. It was like all the snow blew off the front of the mountain and onto the back. Normally the snow blows onto The East and/or North aspects. But North Woods/chair 10 didn't seem that deep when I was there later in the morning. Blue Sky was good on all aspects also except the bombing debris below Lovers Leap sucked. North Aspects on the frontside were weak. Seemed like the early morning snow was quite fluffy, while later in the day it was slower and thicker.

Oh Yeah, there was a controlled burn sign on I-70 in Vail. Think they could make a bunch more fires the next few days Maybe that fine particulate stuff going into the sky will make sure we get as much from the next few systems as possible.

looks like good refresher snow tonight 2-4, tomorrow 2-4, and tomorrow night 2-4 in a still favorable NW flow. Winter weather advisory for this period. Wednesday night thru Friday morning the next system moves in. A stronger overall storm, but the track is not as favorable and winds should shift to the NE at some point limiting snow for our zone. Still looks like a strong snow accumulation week for the Central mtns. Caw Caw. Thanks ULLR

One week early, come on give me something for a week for saturday for my new leg, new motherships and new dukes.

From reports on the mountains, through the 14 you could still feel the crust, but probably from someone not on a wide enough ski. Nonetheless, anything on top of this will be really, really really good.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

I'm in FL all week - I think that everyone who gets to enjoy this cycle owes me a beer for making it snow.

I see a SW on Thursday and later changing to NE. So far the wind directions are telling me that Vail will be getting less than predicted from this storm?? What factors am I missing here?

It is snowing lightly this morning, 7,800' in Eagle Vail, looking like decent fluffy flakes not springy stuff.
