breath of fresh air this morning after a crazy holiday break
Great that you’re finally able to get back out there. I’ve been struggling w ankle issues myself but went to the Basin a week ago, then went on a mtb ride on Sunday followed by a flight for life event Monday night w pain in my chest. Needed a graft to repair an ulcerated aorta that I didn’t even know I had. Getting old aint for the faint of heart. Hoping to get back on snow soon.
damn, rudy, glad you're still with us.

Thanks all. Quite the start to 2025 but looking to move past it. Still have my fingers crossed I can make my Japan trip in early Feb. We shall see.
Couldn't believe how deep the snow was vs how busy it wasn't at Vail yesterday. Skied onto the lift all day.

Cold, windy but awesome day at Copper. Tucker Mtn is skiing great after weeks of good snow and skier compaction.
Hmm. Took a couple back there today and thought it was just ok. The chop was kinda hard to charge but it was soft tho. Upper areas are filled in real well with that compaction for sure. I was digging the groomers today, perfect for carving and really bending up that ski.
I skied 3 laps back there on Sunday, found it a lot to manage but really fun. My biggest problem was my ski wax gripping on that cold snow. I was surprised to see powder, a little chopped up, all over the mountain, figured it would have been skied off on Saturday.
Going back today and it should be wonderful and warm, good thing I finally got the green wax on.

honestly I think that grip was a little bit of it, real soft snow just harder to plow through and the skiing has been so good that maybe it didn't quite measure up. like I said though those groomers were prime and sometimes that is really fun to let my past mediocre ski racer in me arc some turns,.
going to have to get in a couple days before this arctic blast comes our way, Monday looking like it could be a brutal day to be on the mountain. wonder what the MLK weekend will look like crowd wise with this.
Skiings been great!
Sometimes the stuff that's been skied a little, is better than the chunk.
I'll be skiing the Gondi this weekend.
The last two days have been so very nice. If all of Copper went away but the east side I would still be happy. I just worked my way across spalding ridge dropping into one chute after the next. Then zoom across and ski under resolution chair, just lap it.
I also love to ski Black Bear and Free Fall glades. It reminds me so much of the alleys but at least twice the vert and none of the traffic. My best news is that they made a perfect groomer path all the way down to the southwest corner of Alpine lot - ski all the way back to parking!

^^^ Is Free Fall glades new? I don’t think I’ve been in there.
And that’s great to hear about the path to the Alpine Lot. Does it go from the bottom of the lift to the lot?
The way down is a single cat track groomer that splits off to the right from the Bee traverse. Keep your speed up! When you get to the parking lot you have to downclimb like 15-20ft, it's just a little sketchy but there's a bootpack which you'll see when you park. Totally worth it.
