Evac complete around 5:00 - 5:30. Excellent job by Patrol and a whole bunch of other departments that contributed.

Replacement part on a truck from Leitner Poma in GJ on its way. Engineers, Tram Board, USFS and other reps onsite or enroute. Crane onsite tomorrow for part installation. Tram Board investigation and repair inspection will be the holdup rather than the repair itself. Christmas may be saved.

Pano opened for the season today, about 20 minutes before the Gondo shit the bed, forcing its immediate closure to free up patrollers and resources. Folks were PRESSED about the Pano tease, and the front line folks took a beating. People have an insatiable hard-on for that lift that I'll never understandm

Ha...the best thing about the Pano is it stops people riding other lifts.

My Patrol Homies said evac went pretty smooth.

It’s the most overrated lift I can think of. It’s fucking hilarious how people have a hard-on for it.

There used to be t-bars w/a spring that were that high off the ground, early season, on a cold mornin, you could spin around by the towers... It was fun.

WTF happened to the thrill of a "gondola"..? They were hundreds of feet off the ground..!?

    Steamboat?? Vail??

One little clusterfuck..& it's all over for everyplace!!!

given the nature of this defect, the investigation and inspection process will not be quick. this is a component that should not fail catastrophically like this. The crack is on the rocker arm for a hold down assembly on the first tower uphill, meaning the sheave wheels hold the haul rope down here. Since its the first tower, there is a considerable amount of force on this component to hold the haul rope down as it starts its vertical rise. The orientation of the crack appears to show an upward failure consistent with the upward force of the haul rope here. This is not a run-of-the-mill event. Its a really big deal for something like this to crack.

What was your guess for how long the Gondi would take to put back together? If you had, no longer than 30 hours, you win. It's spinning right now. Testing starts tomorrow.

Which brings up the question? If the engineering or design was in question, would they just replace like with like so quickly?

Anywho, kick ass job mechanics! It's always better in a ski town when the holidays are "successful". And perhaps we are entering a bit more snowy pattern.

No idea, one wife is too much stress. Can’t imagine why you would want another.

Copper was great yesterday, friendly vibes. I think I'm rooting for the Philadephia Eagles this year due to a random chair ride. They're playing the Cowboys that I grew up on so I guess I'll need to watch that game at least.

Anyway I stayed on the east side yesterday. I like to ski that last pitch between Alpine and Super Bee - Black Bear glade and Free Fall glade. Hardly anyone has been in there and it actually needs some more traffic. Some of it has deep cut up powder that's been refrozen just a tad, still skiable but challenging for me.

Triple Treat right underneath Alpine chair was perfectly fun. No lift lines at all. I guess with everything open now it's a crush for Copper Bowl and Tucker. Might not go back there until after the holiday but I'll be skiing greens on the west side for the week after Christmas with my grandson. SO EXCITED to ski with him again!

Maybe I'll ski the back side on Christmas morning, might be super quiet. I'd like to hear from anybody how it is?

Also very excited for a week of snow coming in consistently day after day. I guess January will be really nice all around.

I would have taken the "over" for sure. Nice work. But also yes, it looked like a design/engineering problem so say a prayer every time you get on that thing, ha. I was looking at the WPK trail map yesterday and why did they have to change the name of like every lift there? Kind of weird and lame.

The only lift that had a name change was Explorer.

That one really jumped out. But Wild Spur used to be Pioneer, and Zephyr isn't part of "the gondola". Just seemed weird. At least it's still just challenger and that's all that really matters.

Wild Spur is a new lift that replaced the Pioneer. Gondola is a weak name, are you suggesting they should have called it “The Zephyr Gondola”?

they absolutely should have called it the Zephyr Gondola. Or at least anything but "The Gondola"
