Ranking dead last on the list of 19 spots was Monarch Mountain, scoring low in many categories of data, including metrics related to lifts and another related to on-site facilities. While it's true that this ski area is more humble than major destinations that tend to get more tourists, fans of the spot will be quick to note that while there might not be many super high-tech lifts, there also aren't many lift lines – and that the facilities aren't as much of a factor when it comes to Colorado locals hitting the hill during a day-trip, with this demographic more likely to be concerned about run quality and ease of access. Monarch Mountain has plenty of great runs, with affordable snowcat skiing and a memorable glade section.

The new owners have imposed billions of debt on the residents and are waging a pressure and legal intimidation campaign on anyone who asks any questions or speaks up publicly, including elected officials and newspapers, including banning such people and their families from publicly accessible properties.

Powderhorn wasn't included on that list, so Monarch has the penultimate spot.

I can have a lot of fun at Monarch. It is all about expectations.

Anyone who owns a home there is fucked. The billions are financed at 14%. Debt payments alone are going to crush homeowners.

That was my experience as well.....maybe a couple of 10 minute lift lines all day. People are clueless......just look at the shitshow that went down this past weekend. Many "shocked" (and served ) that it took them 9 hours to get from Vail to Denver during a big storm. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the clinical definition of insanity.

I could hike Mirkwood Basin all day for deep turns.

Fair point... but to be honest I don't think there are that many of us.

It faces mostly S and E so the snow quality is often meh IMO and the terrain is barely better than Keystone. That said Salida is super cool and Monarch has a great vibe and isn't owned by either of the evil empires.

3rd time this week we're closing the shop til noon. Love it. Breck is skiing quite awesome right now, yesterday was an awesome sleeper day. Lulu's is at the perfect spot right now, big n lippy with a great landing without being buried for the season like it usually is right now.

Yeah, they are talking about all kinds of new amenities like a food truck and an upgrading the toilets! They probably groom Tiger all the time and become a Bogner dealer.

The Tiger groomer is the best groomer in SW CO when it happens once a decade. For every few years of having a playful, halfpipe exit... making 35m turns down that gut at 45mph is fun too.
