I was pretty excited about reports of 8+ inches on Red, but <.5 inches of water isn't gonna do much to improve the skiing. Hopefully the next couple waves overproduce?

Ok, Copper reported 2" new snow, but when I went to the webcam and replayed it up til clearing, it was at 3".

And remember that they forecasted 0, so that's two days in a row of under forecasting, also demonstrated by higher forecast ranges from other sources (that I can show).

Here is an article discussing the business practice of under-forecasting and underreporting snowfall:
    https://www.inthesnow.com/people-per...-snow-reports/
"Resorts don't operate in a vacuum, they have operational considerations too. They worry about things like lift queues, the state of their terrain parks, and the ability to groom all the runs effectively. Sometimes, a lower headline snowfall figure helps manage expectations and ensures a smoother experience for everyone on the hill, even if it means a few powderhounds are initially disappointed."

I have other sources for these business practices if anyone is interested. But the plot thickens because I believe they are also skewing temperature down and windspeed up. I can show it if anyone is interested. Anyhoo seems clear they are trying to suppress skier activity at least for this storm cycle.

Bring it because I think you...how do I day? You're full of shit for a couple reasons a. the real time data (snotel/webcams) is pretty good b. weather forecasting, model specifically, in unlikely to be manipulated by ski area big wigs c. there are way more sophisticated and effective marketing technics designed to influence skier behavior that a plot to influence the universe of snow forecasting.

I used AI and I went outside. I went back in and watched a couple tow trucks come down and am perfectly happy just making my day about gifting my neighbors some awesome dinners and saving my ABC joints and stuffs. Contemplating the insanity of the reality, one day at a time.

Was excellent yesterday (thanks Michigan and a Mahogany rope drop) and might be all time today (thanks Michigan). 15” officially, two feet according to top of mountain stake.

And, of course, by “all time” I mean an all time clusterfuck of patrons.

That's all true, I am not referring to any of that rigorous information. You are using strawman. I am referring to the website communications to the general public. I mean the forecast shown here: https://www.coppercolorado.com/the-m...ather-forecast
and the snowfall accumulation reported as one number when a simple rewind of the snowstake webcam shows a different raw number.

    And look at this:
"Temps today will hover around 10 degrees at mid-mountain and breezy WNW winds will make it feel even colder. Snowfall tapers off throughout the day before making a return late tonight into Sunday. Bundle up! "

The wind will max out at 8-10 which is not what they are describing.

I've know you to be contrarian for 20 years and that's fine by me, I don't care. I'm just interested in the misrepresentation of information for the purpose of profit or to control public opinion. I work in nutrition software and see a lot of misinformation fed to the general public. Politics is obviously another realm where the practice is commonplace. I'll take this to the padded room if I'm interested in discussing it further.

You should probably ask to speak to the manager...or maybe email Ski Country USA. They actually audit the snowfall numbers.

The NWS is forecasting gusts over 20mph at 10k. It does look like their temps are a bit on the low side although CAICs model is calling for gusts to 30mph and single digit highs at treeline. And they are reporting 2" but you are seeing 3"?

Its a pretty giant step from saying that "Copper has shitty weather on their website" to "They are manipulating the weather forecast in an attempt to reduce skier visits".

No hate here. I'm just you can find data to support your hypothesis. Thats how the internet works. But so far you've linked a 7 year old British article and cherry picked a handful of divergent weather forecasts that very few people probably look at.

No matter how you shake it, today is gonna be a cold DOC day at the ski areas. It will still be busy. I'm sure plenty of hot chocolate and glove warmers will be sold.

Speak to the manager? Haha, I think they are being very smart.

I have more sources and analysis but I guess I've made my point to those interested. My DM is open.

Arguing on the internet is stupid. I'll be snowshoeing this weekend, not nordic because nordic is ghey. You want to argue about that next?

Maybe start a “REAL Colorado Weather Discussion Thread”?

Seriously though, steamboat was great yesterday. Interesting to see/hear how mahogany changes skier flow on powder days. Pony and storm peak felt less crowded than they should have been and powder lasted a little longer in certain spots. But that might have just been the rush to mahogany for the opening. Wish I was up there today, crowds be damned.

When did we get so soft? Disagreeing is not arguing. PMs killed TGR. You know this.

Its an interesting discussion. Ski area, in the course of operating their business, absolutely engage in puffery. Your smart and you obviously have skills in data analysis. But the claim>shitty supporting data>"hey that may be BS">"I don't have time for you, DM me for more info" is weak sauce.

Enjoy your snowshoeing. It be snowmobiling, yogaing, XCing (Nordic is with tight pants), cooking, chores, office work.

Quite a surprise over Vail way, 9" plus 2" more on the snow stake since 5am, but after seeing how many holiday crowds are still in town this week I don't think I'll drive over. I should probably stop being a lift baby and go for a skin.

Edit to say holy cow, look at the traffic comin up..

looking like steamboat should pick more up this week too, thinking I might ditch work wenesday and go for a little day trip if this pans out at least relatively well. I am assuming the base there is pretty good?

The base was *not* good on Wednesday, FWIW.

It should be after this initial round, though.

This was my youngest yesterday. Today would have been too deep for her I think.

The Big Show was splendid today. I took this photo of Chair #11 at 9:45am this morning. Maybe waited 8-10min in a few lines a little later around 11am. Bizarre.

Anywhere from 8"-18" depending on aspect/windloading and previous day traffic.

Like our snowpack? let tits? Let's mf go for 7000cc's!

Her breast implants currents measure 6,640 cubic centimeters with the addition of "expanders" that grow constantly.

She's hoping to "grow" her boobs to a whopping 7,000 CC.
Vail Resorts can do this. I know these things.

    #epicburger

If it gets to 4000 cc's I'll ski instead of doing other fun stufz.
