    ^^Glad you're headed home!

Hopefully you're zone is spared the wind. It seems the rain spigot turned off overnight west of the divide and now there's nothing but heat and wind in NWCO. I retract whatever I said a few weeks back about not having to worry until mid-July.

Keep healing smiley, glad to hear you are headed back home! Hope the little victories of recovery are keeping you going. Don't forget to document progress so you can remind yourself how far you've come on those days it feels discouraging.

Looking for some mag-approved trail recs on the Front Range, I'm staying with my in-laws in the Parker/Castle Rock area next week and I am going to throw my bike on the car. Right now it looks like the stuff in/around Morrison is my best bet unless I want to drive quite a bit further and go to Buff Creek. If someone could point me to specific trails/loops in that zone it would be mucho appreciated.

I'll be on the clock so need quicker rides, like 10 miles / 1k of climbing give or take.

I can give you a somewhat boring ride at one of the local JeffCo parks since you're asking for 10 miles and 1K climbing. It will be closer than driving all the way up to Golden. PM me for route details.

Closest stuff to your in-laws would be Hidden Mesa and Ridgeline. I've never ridden Ridgeline, but HM is decent-ish.

Hidden Mesa looks good from a location standpoint and I could do a couple laps... this is not a bike trip so just looking to get out for an hour or two a couple times while we're there and sweat a little.

This is the other one I was looking at, seems like you could do 2-3 laps pretty quickly: https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/7066910/rutabaga-ride

Lair Bear is a step up from hidden mesa but 45min or so from castle rock. Indian Creek or Deer Creek are a step up from Lair o Bear and 30 min or so from CR. Black Bear even closer but closed until 7/31. I like Indian Creek loop from the indian creek campground if time constrained. Avoids waterton canyon. If 45 min drive works a few more options like white ranch and floyd hill. I'd ride any of those over lair bear and quite a bit better than hidden mesa.

Good info, thx. Rode Lair o Bear before I saw this post. Went early so it wasn't crowded and the length was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. 45 min ride, 6-7 miles and 1200+ foot climb. So just over 2hrs door to door including drive time from the in-laws place. Probably won't be able to hit up anything else on this trip besides Hidden Mesa but I'll look at those other options you mentioned for next time.

About 2 inches of rain at my house last night. Just coming down in sheets. That plus the flood a few days ago I bet I'm already at 4 for July. Nutso.

It doesn't seem like a big deal but I don't care for seeing a smoke plume from the house.

Starting to get real dry down south, I'm surprised they didn't issue a stage 1 restrictions for the 4th weekend. Fingers crossed we get out of this pattern without a major fire.

NOAA forecast seems to indicate no monsoon for the next couple weeks:

    "Two weeks"

    https://christomer.com/wheres-the-monsoon/

Tomer’s Take: We’re still waiting on the arrival the Seasonal Monsoon. It remains blocked by a high pressure dome and strong Subtropical Jet Stream. This jet is also generating strong wind on many high peaks across the West. Data suggest a possible Monsoon arrival after 7/20, but confidence is low. Normally, Monsoon Season runs July 1 – August 31. El Nino might also be a contributing factor.

We've been dealing with daily rain since... late April? Maybe you guys can start squeezin' out all the moisture before it gets to us?

Yeah, I am sick of the rain. But at this point, if the rain stops, the potential for nasty grass fires will spike.

Denver surpassed the annual average, in basically the first 6 months. It’s as wet a a drunk jersey milf in a hot tube.

I got no inside info but this kinda stuff certainly seems like this is the direction we are headed. I feel fortunate to have gotten my fill of the A list attractions in the 90s.

Imagine pulling a gun on someone because they asked for $10 to access private property to see a god damn old building.

In the Juans, I've had a few friends comment that this years "tourists" are more aggro than the last few years. There is a consistent disrespect for the people who actually live in small mountain towns. They treat our homes and wilderness like a personal disneyland. They trash our landscapes, vandalize our historic sites, build fire rings on public trails, leave literal shit all over the woods, rip their stupid OHVs all around town, expect us to wait on their every desire immediately when they are in town... and then bitch on facebook and instagram when the locals push back.

I'm feeling extra spicy about the tourists this season since I am laid up and can't escape it, but I feel like it is worse than it has been in the past few years.

Same shit, different town. Meh. Silverton was smart to ban side by sides. Too close to Texas. CO is filling up. 14ner traffic was down 8% last year though. So we got that going for us.
