Colorado is actually pretty empty overall. It’s just at 99% of people go to 1% of the places. Have a little creativity and you can have all the bliss you want without having to share it with another soul.

My son and I skied untracked north facing pow yesterday on a 13er completely visible from I70 one hour from Denver with nobody else around.

Then we skied the ridge at loveland that had plenty of pow to go around and way less tracks than the silver couloir at 1pm.

Berthoud folks, any ideas if this has a name/ has been skied before? Pieced together a nice little line on the north side of that large cliff above first creek and I’m curious about its history. Photo is the view from Pano at MJ

I'd say it without a doubt has been skied before, but I do not know if it has a name.

I know for a fact it has been skied. I'm not allowed to name anything anymore.

Every time someone posts up a picture like the Buffalo-Silver mogul field on the CO Backcountry Stupid fb group, people immediately puff out their chests and fall all over themselves to post where they were skiing that had "#notracks". STFU people. Nobody thinks you are a better person for it, but you are a fool to encourage the throngs of followers to come to your zone. Let them think for themselves. Of course, if you say that sentiment, the entitled hordes will decry you as #gatekeeping as if you owe them a route guide with .gpx for any posted picture. This is why I never post of fb.

We used to worry about that (spoiling places) on this forum, but this forum is a drop in the ocean compared to fb/ig.

Yes, but Berthoud Pass ain't exactly a secret. As much as I hate spray and that it is a problem, I think think the bigger issue is that the front range has a population of about 5million. Many of them have more time off, get up earlier and are willing to walk further than me.

Luckily, the world is a big place with unlimited adventure. If social media never came around and backcountry skiing didn't have an explosion in popularity, I probably still get 50+ days in at Berthoud. Now I fly paragliders, explore and ski amazing places with and without my snowmobile and scratch the itch in a different way.

Anywho, snow is coming. There will be powder skiing. If not you, who? If not now, when?

Set an alarm and figure out where to choke on it tomorrow. It will be hot and dusty soon.

Based on the 6+ inches on my deck this morning and the alpine pow I skied over the weekend... the next few days are going to be really fucking good in the San Juans

Yeah, seems to have been a high altitude affair this time. Might try to make it up for some beat up pow this afternoon.
