Steamboat is quiet. That's a pleasant reality...

Just came here to say the same thing. They are all in the bars and restaurants, downtown is busy also. Pony-area laps all morning, saw and waited for no one. Decent conditions before the heat kicked in.

Hope the storm delivers but my expectations are already pretty low considering.

The snow is baked... might have something to do with it.

If I was you I wouldn’t post that or that’ll be the next thing that used to be so it now isn’t

You just quoted the photo so looks like the black helicopters will be here soon.

Btw there were probably 50 tracks on that little hill by noon. So what you fear has already happened....

Most plebs don't want to ride firm Pali bumps again and again. Fine by me.
We've done mag parties at WP and Eldora in recent years, it's time for an A-Basin gathering.

The Boat was a little busier on Sunday... which was strange as the snow conditions were not as good as Saturday.

Today should be nice, refrozen coral reef, as there's no sun and no new snow. Think ima skip it.

I found beautiful, edge-able, sloughy chalk and wind buff on Pali and the SGs yesterday. I wouldn't have called them "firm".

Tree chute staircase opened...so cool to get up on that ridge. Little rocky on the way down, but nice to have it open!

We did end up having to wait for about 2 minutes one time at Lenawee yesterday. Good thing they are putting in that HS 6 pack to deal with that backup.

God I love A-Basin. It is like an anomaly in the ski world. Its probably the most well managed ski area in the country right now.

Wise choice. Still hope you had a good time. Was 45 on my deck yesterday at 4pm, literally watched the snowpack dwindle even more. Crack o'noon club for me today, hoping to morph into storm trooper 3-4pm if the powder gods allow. Getting desperate up here but still, my alarm is already set for 5am.

While I do agree, I'm just skeptical that it'll remain as good as it has been this year. We might be living in the "good ol days" right now.

Either way, I'm headed up to "Scrape the Butter" as my buddy's kid calls it.

Put me in the 'skeptical' camp as well. It's too good to be true, IMO. Season passes will sell more quickly next season as some jump ship from VR. Be prepared for the 'Breck local invasion'.

The Spine was good this weekend. Spine->Bus Stop->Rock Garden. Rinse, repeat.

I think they are pretty committed to this model of asking people to pay a bit more for a better experience. I am all for it, I just hope they can stay profitable charting their own course like they appear to be doing.

I see a future where the price of an A-Basin pass overtakes the price of an epic/ikon pass. They are choosing to set themselves apart not on price, but on providing a fantastic experience and I for one will happily drink that Kool-Aid.

It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.
Terrain is king, and the experience matters. They are scoring As in both categories.
Now, bring on some real accumulation, so we stop chirping about Pali windbuff.

I've been skiing the basin so long that I'm a much better windbuff skier than I am a powder skier. Anything more than a few inches and I'm on the struggle bus to crash town USA.

Temperature dropped 20+ degrees in half an hour this morning... guess the Arctic front is here.

Couldn’t agree more. Looooove the Basin. Hope it doesn’t change one bit.

I’ve never hiked all the way up Tree Chute staircase. So you get get up the ridge, and look into Majorie Bowl?

Yeah! The boot pack tops out right on top of that ridge. It is really cool up there. From the top of the boot pack you can hike right along the ridge towards the y chutes or left towards tree chutes. It’s one my favorite spots at the basin, it’s rarely visited and feels like real honest to god ski mountaineering…in bounds at a ski area!

I am going to move my family of 5 from epic to a basin next year due simply to the pics/chatter about what an amazing experience it's been there this year.
