Agreed. I'm all about the spring social skiing. Mid winter is a bit more of a head down keep it serious kinda thing for me. Its just who I am.

So I haven't really talked to my friend much about how it went down yesterday, just a few texts back and forth. He did say that they backed off of a few different aspects/shots that they didn't feel comfortable with. However, I'm still kind of shocked that they were even operating yesterday with the ratings as high as they were, the rain the day before, etc. I'm trying hard not to judge until I get the full story, but damn that seemed like a sketchy day to take clients out.

RIP, skier.
Congrats on the westward move, Z. Must be a joyous feeling to know you'll get to be with your lady full time. Take your time on that fancy degree...
Yeah, Not trying to stir up the drama machine, not my style at all when it comes to avalanche accidents.
RIP to the skier/guide and condolences to the family.
Rumor is now that Silver Queen will be closed a week.

Basin opens tomorrow. Widowmaker slid and covered the road.
Given that shit is going that hasn't in years, I took the time to revisit some due diligence I did when I moved to the Eagle River Valley awhile ago.
While researching, I came across a citation for this article from 1987, tracked down one of the authors, and had a old fashioned chat with him. He kindly e-mailed me the article.
I just uploaded it to the Archive, and thought I would share the link because it's timely, and I know a bunch of you will find it interesting; if not from a planning perspective, but from a historical and naming convention one.

Congrats auvgeek. I've got a long list of spring objectives and can get out many Fridays and some Thursday. Let me know if you want to make some turns.
25 degree trees for me and my dog today. The approach had me worried that I'd be skiing glop and crusts, but once I got into north facing trees it was pure, surfy goodness:
Careful out there. Saw evidence of naturals on several faces I've looked at 100+ times without seeing a crown. Good time to carry avy gear inbounds.
FML that looks money. All i got to do was gladhand politicians instead. Sorry to bail ISBD.
