Just imagine what Copper could be if Climax were to allow them to operate on the land they own south of the ski area. It could be massive. Just sayin. Or if Climax got out of the mining business and instead decided to build a resort on all that property.

Those slides are pretty nuts! Last I heard everyone is ok. Correct?
Dunno if they updated it, but the Cat ran today.

Copper was shockingly good today. 4" overnight? Nope. I dropped second tracks into enchanted forest - that slick little slide in - and expected 4" at the bottom. Nope. I didn't feel a bottom. Was skiing like 18" deep. Did some hiking to make it happen, but between chair open at 9 and noon or so, I didn't ski anything less than 10-12" and barely crossed another track. Didn't seem windblown so maybe just that much more snow on top? Snowstake is mid mountain.

And then they opened Tucker, with the cat, around noon or something. Lost track. Legs were screaming too loud by then. Shut up legs.

Thought it would be an ok day at best. Turned into an incredible day. No real crowds either. But lots of short and long hikes to make it happen.

Yeah yesterday we hiked out to the farthest west runs in Copper Bowl and it was nearly waist deep. I skied Tucker last Friday and it was thigh deep. Imagine it was insane today. Super bummed about the Tucker lift. Hope they open up more cat terrain to make up for it, but they commented on their Instagram post that they have no plans to do so and the cat won’t be running at all next year.

I'll take Copper Mountain for $500, Alex.

The answer is: Future Cat Ski terrain.

    What Jacques Peak?

    Correct.

Can we ski the back side down to Janet's to avoid the slog to the hut? Yay!

Anyone want to comment on Copper on the weekends vs. the Jane? I love the above tree line terrain at Copper as we don't really have that. I've been making it happen at WP on the weekends but only with cunning strategery and surgical precision. Thinking about bringing my lanyard and flat brim over.

I have not skied a ton at Copper on the weekend this year, but, in my limited experience, as long as you stay on the east side of the mountain, you'll have ski-on lifts for the most part.

Some friends were saying that it has been busier at Copper this season, but the few times I've been on weekends it has been pretty damn mellow. The place is skiing really well, lots filled in that doesn't get filled in and Copper bowl hasn't been getting too baked....yet.

I'd wager it got the shit cooked out of it yesterday by mid-afternoon. I was finding crusts on east facing stuff up high in Reso by 1:30 or so.

The back bowls at Copper are way, way less crowded than MJ on Saturdays. I’ve mostly been skiing Copper on Saturdays but have done a couple at Winter Park/MJ because it’s closer to my house, and I always regret it. Much worse lines, and imo worse snow. And the hike to terrain is a much longer hike for not as fun terrain.

Yeah, maybe, but it stayed pretty cold yesterday. Thankfully I was on N facing steeps at 11k" and it was heavenly.

Pretty cool that this big storm came in heavy at first, then light, with very little wind throughout. Really allowed it to stick to some nooks and crannies. I love nooks and crannies! Hope they can hold off on East Wall opening till tomorrow so my back can have a day of rest.

I was surprised how fluffy the snow was yesterday. Lots of white room.

Agreed - it stayed cold. Everything north, NE, NW seems to have stayed nice and fluffy all day. But E-SE was getting BAKED, so I'd assume ALL of Copper Bowl's SE->SW aspects got cooked.

Yeah, I heard that it was raining up there. I hate to be one of those "back in the day that never happened" people, because anecdotes are generally worthless, but fuck, I don't recall rain at 9,000' happening any time from December through March, and now it seems like it happens a few times every winter. Fuck. Time to move to British Columbia or something.

Yeah, pouring rain, all the snow melted, everyone should stay home tomorrow, or for the rest of the season.
