Thanksgiving Eve, biggest bar night in the US. What are you doing?

I'll be getting insanely drunk with people I haven't seen since last Thanksgiving. There will be many shots and we will rage till the early morning. It happens every year around this time.

So, am I wrong here or does anyone else look forward to Thanksgiving Eve?

Bigger than NYE or St. Patty's???? Doubt it.

But yeah, I'll be pounding a few at the Club 2Me, 48th and J, Sacto.

That's correct...at least according to every friend I've had that's bartended for any extended amount of time. I'll tell you why....NYE people go to parties. St. Pat's day? Well, for example in Chicago people generally celebrate the weekend before the big day or the weekend after...thus dividing up the bar goers to two nights...however, for one day every year people decend upon the local waterhole to meet up on Thanksgiving Eve. Think about it? Nearly everyone has the day off the next day. It's not like you have to be 100% to sit on the couch and eat 5000 calories of turkey, stuffing, mashed p's, etc. There's football on....it's about the most perfect hangover day imaginable.

Quick google search gives me this article: http://nycblog.citysearch.com/imbible/

Ive also heard T-Eve is the biggest. Although the above explanation of why T-Eve is biggest is the same for new years- no work, college football, etc.

    Im doing absolutely nothing though.

I'm going to bed at a reasonable hour so I can get up early to ski on thanksgiving. That probably sounds silly, what with this being a ski forum and everything.

Sounds reasonable to me. The only problem is that you're not challenging yourself by having a raging hangover from the night before. This is a skiing forum by the way. We're not pussies.

Biggest bar night of the year = Biggest DUI night of the year. Be careful

I tend to stay away from the bars on these nights.
Because big drinking nights usually mean it's amature night too.
Idiots that go to bars once a year and don't know how to act suck.

Thanksgiving Eve - Party like a rock star.
Thanksgiving day - Gorge yourself, watch football, relax and rest.
Day after Thanksgiving (morning) - kegs and eggs (self explanatory).
Day after Thanksgiving (evening) - Turkey and a barrel (self explanatory).

This has pretty much been my MO since I turned 22.

It used to be a big deal...going back home and catching up w/old high school & college buddies.

Now it's more: staying the fuck-off the roads and out of the airports!

In other words, I'll be getting hammered more locally.

i'll be drinking, quite possibly at home, with a couple of buddies. this will be the first year i don't go home for turkey day. usually at home we go to the metlin. the gal that owns the place buys about 10 birds, lines the bar with food, and feeds whoever is in town, but can't stand their family.

i'm definitely not heading to the bar. we did that last night instead and tonight is beer pong at a buddy's house so that nobody has to drive home.

it's pretty sick how many amateurs come out of the woodwork on thanksgiving eve.

Funny how old married guy stoke can be simple... Would actually love to get some time on a bar stool in a busy joint, but will be hanging around me casa enjoying the dynamics with oldest son home from college, his little brother idolizes him... Oh, and building a couple computers from system components which should be delivered today.
If some of the best times of my life were skiing the UP in -40 wind chill with nothing but jeans, cotton long johns and a wine flask to keep warm while sleeping in the back of my dad's van... does that make me old school?

That's true. Four years ago my buds and I were out in Chicago on T-Eve. I was living in Greektown at the time...so after 30 or so drinks we decided to grab a gyro at one of the gyro places in my hood. Obviously the place is going to be blowing up at 4AM because it's T-Eve...even though everyone has to eat turkey in a few hours...anyhow, two sober Turkish guys that were brothers were dancing on the tables and were wearing white fur coats...obviously major douchebags. A friend of mine tells them "hey, why don't you do us all a favor and shut the fuck up". These guys happened to have a group of 10 friends with them...unfortunately we only had three and proceeded to go outside and summarily beat down. Makes for a fun day of photos the next day on Thanksgiving. Luckily I only got hit in the back of the head so my grill wasn't fucked up....my friends were not so lucky.

yes, T-day eve is a definite amatuers night. all the professional drunks wait until the saturday after thanksgiving. by then, the cops have worn out their ticket book and filled up the jails and all the girls that had to play nice to their family for 3 days are looking average out their badness column with what they just put in the goodness column.

tonite, i'll be finishing reading 'blowing up russia' and thinking up russian phrases i can teach my nephews. saturday, college football, tailgating, partagas cigars and bass beer.

Well... I'll post a TR of my family centric Turkey Day EVE hoping you'll post one about your bacchanalian fueled night out at the bars on the "busiest night of the year".

Spent the afternoon with my two sons futzing with a computer assembly... Took my time and enjoyed the process. My 19 year old, home from college, was driven to a couple outbursts just wanting me to get on with it...

Had the hardware all installed by early evening... but had a huge mash up with issues regards Windows Vista 64 bit install. Kept getting the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) after most reboots... arghhh... removed 2 of the 4 gig of ram, same issue... changed some bios settings, same issue... finally had to use the "fail safe" bios settings... like lowest on everything and it seems stable enough to continue on?

Computer set-up issues didn't get me down though... as we had our second dusting of the year. Here is a view of the driveway, shot out the window... Yes, my lawn tractor is still outside. I need to get the leaf/clipping attachment on it and get the last leaves of the year off my yard still. I hope they don't get snowed in, that happened once maybe 5 years ago... I was chopping ice/leave clumps in spring, not fun.
