Today did not suck at all. Easily a foot at Magic, maybe even more.

"Powder snow skiing is not fun. It's life, fully lived, life lived in a blaze of reality." -Dolores LaChapelle
Today was really good at Jay, I would guess it was around 12" kinda heavy but so good to have some pow again.
Sam I have seen your reports and you would do well in this comp. The Face is more fun than gnar.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?
good day at killington today. lots of cold weather and wind movng in the next couple days. anther storm friday into saturday and another midweek next week.
First off I'd just like to say that the Superintendent of schools is a complete moron and needs to get a clue, that being said today did NOT suck.
Last night the plan was to hit Magic or K-mart but at 6 am I got the call that schools would only be delayed 2 hours. Looking out the window it only looked like 3" and I debated just staying home, but Jiminy Peak was reporting 10" so I scrambled around for my touring gear and headed out around 7:30.
The day wasn't improving as I arrived to find one other car in the lot, and snowshoe tracks heading up. Great I thought to myself, it wasn't going to be that great anyway, I've only got time for one lap, and I've already missed 1st tracks.
My day perked up however, as whoever was ahead of me had gone straight up and come straight down the same line, and perhaps left the goods completely untouched. Plus had done the dirty work of breaking trail
As I had hoped they had broken trail right past the opening in the trees and I quickly helped myself to first tracksIt was deep I'd guess anywhere from 8-10", but there was a very slight skin on top, which made the snow feel slabby and denser then it actually was. Still it was deep and the perfect density for making old school porpoise style pow turns. I know that all the cool kids are using the slarving lazy style of pow skiing, but sometimes there's nothing better then rhythmically bouncing your way through the pow

To make a long story short, on the way back to the car I got a call from the wife, turns out 5 minutes before school started the Superintendent decided that he couldn't deal with the flack of being the only school district that delayed instead of closing. If you've ever watched school closings in the Capital District you'd realize its a GIANT game of chicken. Every superintendent waits as long as possible to see what every other district is doing, THEN they make their call whether they delay or close their district's schools. I'm sure part of it is because they don't want to be "alone on an island" but really the kids safety should come first and it shouldn't matter what the district next to you is doing.
Despite the fact that I didn't make it further North the day still was pretty good

thats at the very bottom, approximately 30cm's of snow(theres more up top)
there's 5cm of icecrust at the bottom, then 7 cm's of what was the 2/22 storm then 18cm of heavier stuff on top of that from last night.
If my memory from the past few years is right, I think thats a bit lower then normal for this time of year. We've gotten enough snow to keep it consistently ski-able, but there's been a lack of big base building storms, and in the interim we've had a lot of rain/thaw events that have hammered whats been there. We still have all of March to go however but I'd say in its current state if we continue getting 6-8" storms followed by rains/thaws we're going to have a tough time making it to April(normally PP will stay in until 1st/2nd week, it can be marginal but it can be skiied).
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was
jay was foot plus. didnt suck at all. then only thing that sucked was i had to leave today. Killer first turns down can am on the hellbents.
A woman reported to police at 6:30 p.m. that she was being "smart-mouthed."
smuggs was ill today. We got there for first chair and there was 7ish on the ground and it was still puking. We decided to get first chair on m1 and lapped upper m1 liftline a few times before heading to the birthday bowls. By this point there was at least a foot in there. I got some of the best pow tree skiing ive had back there today. The snow is so light

looks like this clipper coming through will really help new hampshire- looks to pick up some strength as it moves east. Wouldn't be surprised to see 6-10 from the green mnts east.
16" of wind load pow at Song last night.
Even Sunapee was good on Wednesday. 10" reported. 10" in my driveway so I'd agree.
Glades on the frontside had some awesome snow with minimal traffic.
Is that H -Man on the Attitash webpage cover? Orange-yellow jacket? Its not...is it?

Anyone who lives in Boston going to be at Jay Saturday, or Mt. Snow (probably) on Sunday? I've got a little gear I'm trying to get to Boston, if someone could grab it for me that would be cool...

Burke was sick yesterday. About 10" to start, and it kept snowing all day. All the trails skiiers right off the summit were ungroomed, and the woods were awesome, even deeper.
Met up with a local (a groomer no less) after getting first tracks down dougs drop, little dipper, and powderhorn, who was cool enough to ski the trees with me all morning after the groomers were tracked out (I was alone) and he even showed me some sick unmarked tree stashes off of deer run. Best day of the year for me, for sure.
