You know, there are no hidden gems anymore. Even though the holiday weekend brings out the occasional skier, there are no secrets. The new GM at Cannon is promoting the once quiet Mittersil and it is now mainstream. There will be no lift, but they want to get more skiers over there. He wants to be able to say Cannon has increased the trail count by 40% in one year. Wait til they have to do a rescue in the woods.

Last weekend our few secret stashes were raped by race classes, ski instructors and gapers galore. I'm really sick about it.
Battle lines being drawn, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong, old people speaking their minds, getting so much resistance from behind.

I think the new owners plans of having fewer skier visits is working a bit too well
Good for them. I can't think of a more deserving group for it to happen to.

    amen to that

its nice to see that when you behave like arrogant blow-hards towards your core customer base that there is some form of karmatic justice in the world

here's hoping that the current group of losers either gets a WHOLE lot more humble now that their monstrosity of a village isn't getting built, or they get the fuck out of town and never come back
For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Hey there! I'm hitting northern VT all next week. Jay, Stowe and MRG are on my list. I'm up for a challenge. Any good tips on getting oriented at these joints? Western PA doesn't quite prepare the mind...

MRG has a pretty good interactive trail map w/pics and honest descriptions of what to expect. if there's good cover by then, you can find someone here to show you around the woods...though a ride up the single will give you a decent feel for what the place is all about

I heard 5" to 10" of base loss for basically the entire NE region hopefully one of these storms this week will become something.
You're gonna stand there, owning a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistling bungholes, no spleen spliters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker donts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistling kitty chaser?

got up there today. they lost about 10". nothing devastating to the base, but the main issue is that everything is an ice rink. it snowed hard for about an hour, and they picked up about an inch or two, but now the sun is out again.

Yea, I ended up going up this afternoon. I somehow always think that after rain it won't be a pond, and I'm always wrong and sad. Hopefully it snows this week a lot.

Dex, you have shown poor judgement in the past. Also, aren't you dead? I'm expecting a big asian(orient) contingent in northern VT and I want to find them...

Is their anywhere out there that doesn't have the boilerplate/1"crust? Anyone have a MRG report?
I went for a tour today, broke a fuck'n NX21 and had to post hole through the crust and rig the binder up to get out of the woods. 3" of nice snow on the 1" crust, then about 1-2' of base in northwest mass. We only need a few more inches to make things decent again.

Snow in PA today and tommorow and NOAA says it will miss most places further north. I may be able to ski in the same state I live in this weekend.

10-12 at p-kill sounds like a bit much...but who the fuck knows this winter...nonetheless, I'll be in the area with fingers crossed and bacon in my pockets.

Yea...maybe a little high but there will be a swath of 6-10 and since they NEVER get the catskills snow amnts right and since there is cold air in place I suspect that there's a chance for such an amnt by sat.

Totally valid points. They've had some pretty bad calls this year and the other two spent as a passholder in the area. I've learned not to get my hopes up too much. Count me as praying for the fuckin' swath!!!

Thinking of heading up tomorrow morning early from CT with a friend, bringing sleeping bags and potentially sleeping in his car if it looks good for Saturday. Anyone have recommendations on where we should go for this storm? So far, from checking website weather reports, Killington (3-4'') and Platekill (4''-6) are predicted to have more than Jay (chance of light snow) or MRG (1 inch). WWMD?

I really don't think this storm will be hitting the resorts from Sugarbush north. Definitely stay south.
Raise 'em Jay. And remember: Safety Third!

It's not very often that I recommend this place but Berkshire East could be pretty good tomorrow. They have night skiing tomorrow night too.
