Skiers waiting to load the Beaver Run Super Chair at Breckenridge on Thursday were greeted with a daunting sight: A pair of moose roaming about. One of the animals opted to avoid the crowded area, but the other charged right in. There were definitely a few moments when it seemed like there might be a collision, but luckily everyone escaped unscathed.
It is worth noting that while this might be the best time of year for skiers and snowboarders, this is a tough time of year for wild animals in search of food. The quest for sustenance is likely a large part of why the moose ventured so close to humans in the first place. In general, it's best to minimize human impacts on wildlife. In this particular case, there wasn't much anyone could do, but as visitors to alpine habitat we should do our best to be mindful.
