Surf-specific wave pool projects are a contentious topic, with some lauding their consistent wave quality and accessibility, and others claiming that they are ruining the sport's soul. Kelly Slater's notorious Surf Ranch has been the topic of most discussion, likely due to the high-profile status afforded by Mr. Slater's name and events like the Freshwater Pro.

Despite the mixed feelings surrounding inland surf establishments, they're popping up all over the world. They're also attracting many of the surf world's biggest names, including Mason and Coco Ho, who flew to California to visit the Palm Springs Surf Club. Built at an old waterpark, the PSSC isn't officially open for business yet, but based on Mason and Coco's surfing, it's safe to say that the wave is plenty fun, and worth a look once (if?) it opens to the public.
