Most people think of surfing as the sport of sunny days at the beach and perfect, glassy barrels. And they're not wrong, at least for the most part. But, as with any action sport, there exists a lunatic fringe of athletes who push beyond the bounds of safety and fun, instead searching out the most ludicrously perilous version of their sport.
In the case of surfing, that fringe can often be found at Nazaré, Portugal during winter storms, being towed into waves by the region's legendary jet ski drivers. Check out the winter's biggest rides, featuring the omnipresent Kai Lenny, alongside Maya Gabeira, Justine Dupont, Sebastian Steudtner, and Lucas Chianca.
