FULL FILM: Wade Goodall & Shane Fletcher’s ‘PENTECOASTAL’

Some sports films are unabashedly all about the action, and some try and fit the action within an overarching creative concept. When done well, either strategy works just fine. However, few things are more annoying than a ski, surf, or bike flick that leads off with a dramatic voiceover promising some grand vision of the sport in question, and then turns into a standard compilation of location-driven segments with no clear connection to the aforementioned vision.

Luckily, while PENTECOASTAL does seem to have a grand creative concept, it's far enough over my head that it doesn't bother me at all. Self-described as "a recollection of Australasian exploration following a quasi-recursive map, with elemental moments of expressive wave worship," PENTECOASTAL seems, to my unenlightened eyes, to be a sick Australian surf edit, and there's nothing wrong with that.
