Swiss Chairlift Derails and Hits Ground

A chairlift above the Swiss town of Stoos-Fronalpstock fell 30 feet to the ground late last night, severely injuring two passengers who were returning from an evening event on the mountain. A 33-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition, while eight more passengers were rescued with minor injuries.

The accident was preliminarily attributed to a snowcat’s winch cable coming into contact with the chair, causing it to detach from it’s rope and fall to the ground. An investigation by local authorities is ongoing.
