Probably won’t be great unless that new shell is close in dimensions internally. If you get pushed into a new liner, do a Zipfit instead so that you can move it to a new boot and then probably another and another.Quote:

So I heat molded a replacement liner for my 5 year old boots and they feel great, other than the fact that my heels go numb after an hour or two of skiing. I assume the heel pockets are too tight? Should I heat mold again with a thicker sock? Or are there other techniques to get a little more room in the heel pockets while not making them sloppy?
Any suggestions for places to look for a used press?

how where the heels for the past 5 years? if they where fine, just go ski the boots for a day or so. Then if you need more room spot heat just that part and buckle the middle 2 buckles TIGHT. that should give you roomQuote:

I’m picturing a sliding ruler that gives the measurement inboard of the ends of the ruler so you can see it. Or be digital. Ideally there would be a locking mechanism so you could measure at an angle into the depth of the heel pocket.
I made one out of a ruler and a sleeve that seems to work but is too fiddly. I may try and make one out of two pipes with threads.

Does anyone have a good source of bulk cambrelle? I’m looking for a 4” roll for footbeds and and 1.5” roll for heater cables. Preferably of the old sidas/conformable style. I find the new thermic cambrelle doesn’t stick well and isn’t very stretchy.

Does anyone have a pdf or physical manual for these American made style heat stacks? I just got a used one and I can make it work but it feels like voodoo since it gives me an error code most of the time and then suddenly works.

As many of you know, the best boot presses in North America (Keyser) have been out of production for several years (I never received the last one I had on order).
Lou Rosenfeld out of Calgary/Sun Valley is now making replicas of the Keyser press without the adjustable stop bar and with 1/2" fittings for the top arm so your rings don't fall out. Not cheap, but if they are as good as Keyser they're a deal - I'll let you know in a month or so. Email Lou at lou@lous.ca for info and pricing.

Good for Lou! He has a love him/hate him reputation around here, personally I'm an advocate for the guy. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes to biomechanics and boot fitting, some of his ideas are out there. I believe his bedside manner turned people off from the idea that he fit aggressively and it would take time to make the boot work for them. Some people trusted the process, some didn't...maybe there was more to it than that, I don't know.
Yeah, I wonder how it's going for him at the Sun Valley Ski School (his current winter gig after he closed his shop) - those people are used to buying their way out of a problem by throwing money at it, not waiting around.
New Rosenfeld press is up and running, and it's a work of art. All flat grey beaded finish, super smooth ball bearing operation, balls/cups are beautiful. Beefy; shipping weight was 80 lbs.!

I'm looking to add to add a high volume hybrid boot option to my mix at the shop. I'm currently carrying the Scarpa Quattro for a low-ish volume hybrid boot, but need something for the higher volume foot, especially in the instep. Doesn't necessarily need to be Boa, or especially light weight. I'm thinking Atomic Hawx XTD 120 Prime or Magna, Tecnica Cochise HV 120, maybe Zero G Tour Pro if it's got a high instep, knowing the width is easy to modify. La Sportiva Vega? The Dynafit Tigard seems like a good option on paper, but most reviews say this boot has a strange fit, disproportionally high instep. A staff person got a Tigard, doesn't like it. Being a small shop in a small town, I don't get to try on as many boots as I'd like to, so wanted to ask all you more knowledgable people for some recommendations. I should probably just do a trip to the big city, visit some shops with big selections, or request some demos from reps.</p>
