Avalanche Closes I-70 Near Frisco, Colorado
Popular Stories
An avalanche closed Interstate-70 in Colorado between Copper Mountain and Frisco on Friday. Luckily, no cars were buried, no one was injured, and avalanche mitigation teams were able to promptly reopen the major thoroughfare. Hopefully this serves as a reminder to everyone that avalanche danger is still high across the west and that it isn't purported to improve any time soon.
After a deluge of new snow last week, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center has repeatedly circulated the same warnings to skiers and snowboarders wanting to tour in the high-country: not yet. This latest avalanche and resulting highway closure serve to validate the CAIC's warnings and ideally convince everyone that if you don't know, don't go.
