Mountain Biker Dies Riding Deer Valley’s Holy Roller Trail

This screenshot was taken from Deer Valley's  Summer 2016 promo video

According to Park Record, a mountain biker died while biking the Holy Roller flow trail at Deer Valley Resort in Utah on Saturday.

The 41-year-old biker Benjamin Schmutz was from Layton, Utah.

Reportedly, a man and his son were riding down the trail when they came upon Schmutz on the ground. They immediately contacted Deer Valley's bike patrol who arrived within five minutes.

The first responders transported Schmutz off the slopes where he was confirmed dead.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head — the impact was significant enough to break his helmet.

Deer Valley's Holy Roller trail was just built this season and is rated as a beginner trail. Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Benjamin Schmutz.
