    Icer Air

Pretty cool. Sketchy landing on the jump. One of the women veered off and went rat-a-tat down a 2x4 lined climbing ramp. She wasn't moving at the bottom and was rolled away.

    TJ Schiller was killing it.

Amzing how hard the baseball field is. How do they grow grass on that hard soil?

Heathen!!! J5 rules. And this is coming from someone who always thought a live rap show would suck, that is until I saw J5 live earlier this year.

That was pretty fun today. Definitely very surreal and very cool to see a massive ski jump alongside SF Bay.

Laughed pretty hard (as soon as I knew she was ok) over the rider who fell short of the gap and fell into the net. Seemed for a bit like they hadn't anticipated that happening and didn't quite know how they were going to get her out. Got pix on my cell phone, and if they're decent, will get those up.

Loved Jurassic 5. Thought they were a good addition.

Pretty good excuse to hang with the fam, drink some beers, watch some carnage, and see thousands of people throwing paper airplanes off the upper section (mine sucked by the way). Jump was pretty lame. The gap wasn't lame. Most people barely could clear it. It needed more of a lip. Anyway, had a good time with seanyob and his bro.

    Here are some pics...

it was cool at the end..there were a lot of pros and signings. Also got a HUGE deal on skis. I got 07 Scratch Bc for $319!
It's the same with snowing and skiing as it is for a girl that's gonna have sex. She doesn't know how many inches she's gonna get, but she knows she's gonna get a hell of a ride...

    Full TR to come (maybe)...

Anyways, I got to hit the jump yesterday, got to dress in Bond's locker and get treated like a rockstar for a day. Pretty fun day, except for the jump was the single worst jump I've ever hit in my entire life. The worst tranny's to jump ever, the sketchiest jump construction ever and the lamest regard to safety ever. There wasn't even a net until the athletes demanded to get one put up or none of us would even jump. And the steps on the side of the landing being unpadded and not covered with snow was just plain stupid. Their planning singlehandedly led to Kaya's punishment (the girl who tumbled down the side). Btw, she's okay...sort of. I went to the hospital this morning to visit her and there is good and bad. No broken bones or anything of that sort, but she has some minor internal injuries that may require surgery. She's in her second CT scan around now I believe to determine the possible need for surgery. The doctors are super positive for a full recovery, but Kaya (Turkski) is super nervous because she's never sustained an injury like this before and has never even had surgery before. Please send positive vibes, prayers and anything else that could help.

Other than that the event was quite fun and I couldn't believe they let a big mountain skier hit that shit

That girl Stacked those steps soooo hard. Kinda sucks that she got messed up because of sketchy design on landing. Whe the girl landed in the net, they were at a loss, they had no idea what to to, If she didn't climb out, they would have been there forever. When they started bringing the ice crane into pick her out, It was over.

Stocked to see Tony Hawk thrash. And when the little kid got Tony's autograph, then dropped in with pen and paper in hand.

And Last what was up with the White Little John announcer.

Alkasquawlik - are you kidding? No net?

I got there around 2:15 pm or so, and the nets were there...pretty much confirmed death if you fell that far to center field. I mean, what if you caught an edge right before the tranny, etc?

Exactly what we were saying and especially since the transitions on the inrun were so abrupt the likelyhood of catching a edge before the jump was high. Hence the fact it happened. Yeah 6, they were gonna run us without it, but we demanded one be put up, so they called a local gymnasium and got it shipped over.

yeah, it was pretty painful just watching those guys land on the lip...knee to the nose style...ick.
But being the type of baseball fan that only goes for the beer and hotdogs, I was stoked to be doing that AND seeing my first sight of snow for the 06-07 season!
the full moon and fog were pretty rad too.

Mad props Alkasqualik and to the rest of the riders for demanding the net.

I hope that at any future events with similar safety problems that the riders take the same stance and either have the problem fixed or walk away and ride another day.

Love those pictures. The sheer novelty of having a big air snowsports contest in the middle of SF (smack dab SOMA - we walked to the movie theater after the show) - during Indian Summer is so cool. I have to admit, I was digging the fact that I was looking at snow against that backdrop of the Bay.

Anyone know the distance of that gap?

I missed it and only saw the after math. Anyone see why the girl who ended up in the net fell short?

Alka - I had a feeling they didn't expect to be using the net. When it took them a while to even get the crane over there, I suspected they hadn't anticipated someone actually falling into it. What a tragedy it would have been had you guys not pushed for the net. good god.

I'd definitely go back next year. Fun day.

Question Icer Air 2006 Gap Size?

How wide does anyone think the horizontal gap between the takeoff and the landing slope was? I would guess at least 30' but I would like to hear from other folks. Without the net, it would have been a serious no fall zone IMHO.

It was interesting to hear in the KRON video coverage (Icer Air 2006 Part 1 of 7) that Johnny Moseley said "We were always planning to have a net but we didn't get it up until later."

The kid who retrieved one of competitor's goggles off the ramp and then body surfed on his stomach in a short sleeve shirt down the ramp got some applause from the crowd.

WSD - I think I remember hearing a comment on one of the Icer Air 2006 Part 1 to 7 videos that the girl fell into the net because she was going too slow but no comment as to why she was going too slow (maybe she was too light to generate enough speed for the gap size). I think the other competitors certainly took notice of what happened to that girl because I saw other folks getting serious slingshot starts and tucking hard down the ramp.

BTW, things with Kaya sound positive. Sounds like surgery might not have to happen. Hopefully nothing goes wrong and she won't have to get any surgery done.
