TR: GULMARG '08/09 - KASHMIR HUMOR

    KASHMIR HUMOR

As with other states in India, English is the primary language of sky-high promises in Kashmir, and along with hyperbolic heights of promise come many opportunities to find humor (mostly unintended). There are many Indian doctors in Kashmir (as in the USA) and one can be found for any ailment, but we were there before working hours (4:00 PM [!]) so didn't see any patients going to this clinic. Photo: E. Klinger.

Another doctor. These are some pretty short hours in which to earn a living in Kashmir. This fellow is either the envy of all his neighbors as one of the highest paid physicians in town, or possibly an example of wishful thinking: perhaps these are the hours Dr. Hassan is away from his primary job and when you may find him dangling about at home. It might be prudent to research the local sex offender registry in advance of an appointment.

This photograph is pretty common to find in other visitors' cameras after a trip to Srinagar. The "Exhibition Cum Sale" can be witnessed at Residency Road, near the Zero Tourist Taxi Stand.

A lot of crap rental gear at Gulmarg. Among this stack was a brand not seen in the USA - Swallow Poles.

This is not the bus you took to school in the morning, this was the full-length edition that passed your stop.

I was very surprised to see this sign correctly spelled as many were not in Kashmir, notably among establishments that had much higher aspirations than this office.

This section of the Dale Lake waterfront neighborhood looks promising.

Choosing this shikara seems like a bad idea, unless you're a bad-ass Kashmiri carpet-gangster showing your girl around Dal Lake.

Near Dal Gate in Srinagar find every working girls' night gone wrong.

Nothing special. Like the "Decent Tailor" in Lal Chowk, this business boasts of modesty as a virtue.

I forgot the caption for this photo after "studying" this topic.

How about a single Gulmarg "Official" thread, rather than 15 different threads floating around.... Just food for thought.

    Still cool pics.
