    S7 Mounting Point?

Searched; didn't find much at all .... so ....

Tell me what you Cats think?? I've heard everything from +1 to +3 to 85cms from tail to ???? Tell me what you like 'bout your chosen moutning point, what you don't like and what you'd do differently if you had the opportunity.

Also, I'm 6'-0; 195 and got this ski for the pow; soft, chopped pow and hitting tight vaginas fast at Alta; don't ski switch-a-roo all that much. What would you recommend for me??

    Thanks in advance

thanks Marsh and Zo (I'll be up to see you later).
does the +3 and 86 put you in a good spot to carve some short turns instead of just buttering them?

any other thoughts/opinions from the well respected out there??

I mounted mine at +3 and then moved them back 1.5. I really like them at the +1.5, there is less tail and a little more float (easier to keep the tip above the snow, not that it was that difficult at the +3). Originally I thought the +3 would be perfect but I was searching for more ski in front of me when there was 6 plus inches on the ground (I actually still wish there was a little more length in front of the binding). I'm 5'11 and around 185ish. The 188 skis really short due to the rockers which leads me to believe that the 195 that is coming out next year will fucking rule (not that I don't love my 188). I don't feel that I lost anything when I moved it back to the 1.5 mark but gained a little powder performance.

I'm 86 cm from the tail and can't imagine wanting to go anymore forward. Even mounted there, there isn't much tip out in front of you and if you drive the tips in to the turn it almost seems like your going over the front of the skis. I talked to a few people who mounted them forward of that cause they kept feeling they didn't have enough tail and kept getting thrown back which I haven't experienced. I'm with emr that I can't wait for the 195 even though I too love the 188.

Xover, skied mine this weekend for the first time - mounted at 0. Personally I wouldn't want them any more forward than that. They already ski ridiculously short; I don't ski switch nearly as much as I used to. Fun ski.

I skied these today at the meadows demo day and loved them....so much that I bought a pair I had my shop guy call the rossi rep who was doing the demo and get the mount point which was +3. At that point I swear they carve like a slalom ski. I skied just about every new big ski except for the k2s and was completley blown away by the s7s.

I mounted mine at +3. I am 6' and 200lbs. The ski skis amazing in deep snow and crud at this point. I also skied my friends at 0 and I wasn't as impressed by the ski. Felt like it put me in the back seat to much. +3 is my recommendation. The 188 skis short but I haven't experienced any issues with making large turns in pow.

I think the 195 will be sick but I am stoked on the 188's for skiing tight tree pow.

So I have a pair of 188 S7s to mount up in the near future. I just measured them, and they measure about 87.5 cm to the "0" mark on the ski, which I'm assuming means I got a pair with the fucked up graphic for the mounting point. I weigh about 170, am about 5'8", and am fortunate enough to ski a lot of powder. I don't really ride switch, but wouldn't mind being able to mess around with some BC switch 180s every now and then. Should I just measure them from the tail to 86cm and make the mark behind the "0" line to get my mounting point? Do you hold the tape flush against the ski from the tail to get the measurement? I have had to re-drill a pair of skis to move them back or forward and I hate having to put an extra set of holes in a new ski because it wasn't right the first time.

I work for Rossi and I have a pair of S7's with a demo binding. We mounted the demo binding on 0 and everyone that skis it likes it, not knowing where it's mounted. I send this ski out with Shop Employees, Ski Patrollers, Ski Instructors, Pros, Resort Marketing people, Industry people and old friends. Honestly 100% stoke on that mount point. I mounted my personal pair on 0. I'm 6'3", 195 lbs and I ski it every day, stoked. With the demo binding, you can move the boot's mid point to about +2, with my size boot (317 mm) and I tested it there. The advantage to moving forward is that you have more tail backing you up on cliff landings. It skis better switch also, obviously, but when you're not in pow it feels short and unstable compared to the 0 line mount. Most of the feedback I get is that 0 is the way to go. After fucking with the demo binding, I agree... unless you ski fresh pow landings every day or ski switch a lot. I hope this helps, God Speed!

What's up T-Bag! It's Evan from the Salomon trip this summer. Thanks for the response on the S7, I can't wait to get them mounted! So should the 0 mounting point measure 86mm from the tail? As I said before, I measured the pair I have and the 0 is at 87.5mm (even the two skis are a little off-one is 87.4 and the other is 87.8). Are you coming up to Jackson anytime soon?

86 cm from the tail with the tape straight or following the curve of the ski?

Snow Ranger it's 86 cm from the tail with straight pull not the curve of the ski.

thanx a shit-ton guys. after some deliberation, decided to go with 85cm straight tape from the tail; 86cm just looked to give a nick to much tail and not enough shovel. plus 85 looked to match the side cut better.

will report back on how this spot skis.

p.s. incidentally, 85cm straight tape from tail registered +1.5 on my graphics, but i have heard of others being off way more than that.

Me 6'-0; currently 195 lbs; try to ski strong; mounted at 85cm straight from tail; 1 day on them so far that started as a perfect Alta 12" pow morn that turned to crudded up pow by noonish that even got scraped off to harpack by the end of the day in a few select spots (I purposefully ski these to see how the ski would handle this condition).

This ski gave me legs to last bell to bell + some when I'm not nearly strong enough yet to do so. The thing absolutely killed it in all the above stated conditions in any desired turn radius. Once I started skiing, I didn't even notice what some people would say wasn't very much shovel up front. Plus, my mounting point gave me enough tail to "sprang" back into the front seat when I got bucked by a bump or two at the end of the day.

    This ski is amazing

Nice writeup Xtremeover! Agreed on the legs these things give you, I survived many exits from garbage chute/eagles nest without dying like I normally would on my bigger, stiffer boards.

.... as I re-collect tonight on the "feeling(s)" this ski gave me throughout the day (start to finish) yesterday, I am drawn to a recent, very bold statement by our (and TTips) very own Snowdork that this is the best ski Rossi has made (hell maybe, even the industry has seen) since the Cut 11.

I couldn't possibly agree with this under the radar, ripping snow slayer, Alta 'troller more

The ski is absolutely amazing and in and of itself makes me look forward to skiing tomorrow no matter what conditions are thrown at it

Rossi abso-fucking-lutely nailed it with this one; but like the Cut 11, I can (regrettingly) see them f'ing the whole ski up with the 195(or 6) next year

p.s. ChompFaceKillah, can I be the President Ellect for the soon to come S7 Cult???

I have mine at 0, with the 86 direct cord pull the 0 line was 1cm behind the top sheet 0 line. Seems like they are mounted like Xover's. Skied them a few times here at Stowe, super fun in the woods, though just got back from a few days at Alta so I got to fully test them out..so stoked on them.

I skied on next years S7 today in a 185, and we rigged the demo binding to be at +3 just to try it out, liked the mount at 0 better seems like a short shovel being + 3.

The 195 is going to be the jam, they will have a layer of metal in that one.

Bumping an old thread here since this hasn't been discussed since early into the ski's introduction.

Is the general concensus still to mount on the 0 line at 86 cm straight pull from the tail?

I was told to mount my JJ's at recommended, people who change that point didn't seem to love the skis as much, with such a short sidecut imo it's generally better to put them at recommended. I've heard of people liking the s7 at +3 though so I'm not sure

I was gona go with this

    http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...mounting+point

I got some 4frt deadbolt demo bindings for the 185 JJ's so I can still play with boot center once they are mounted

The demos I tried were at boot center and I liked em
