MPC #89: Geological (Ends August 26)

My pants are barely able to contain the happy - thanks everyone!

At the very least, this theme should be accessible to anyone. Also, in the interest of giving everyone 2 weekends to get the perfect shot, let's run this through the 26th.

Anything that has to do with geological processes is acceptable. From the large view of landscapes & mountains to more detailed pictures of patterns in rock formations to the tiniest details that show off colors and textures to whatever else you can imagine that has something to do with geology. Get creative, I know there's a bunch of kick-ass photogs on this site, let's see what you can come up with.

    RULES:
    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.
    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.
    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 photos to be voted on.
    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way, not an option.)
    5. In the event of a tie, the contest moderator will have the deciding vote.
    6. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.
    7. The winner has 3 days to start a new contest or 2nd place becomes the new winner.

    Past MPC's:
    MPC #88 Big Machinery

The forum is telling me that this post is too many characters now with all of the previous MPCs included. For a list of all MPCs previous to #88, see the link above. Anyone have an idea for a better way to track the previous MPCs?

    Thanks Willie, good theme.

I happen to be taking a glacier ice seminar at Mount Shasta for 4 days at the end of this week ... so ... hopefully I capture something creative and "geological." Man, thank goodness Jason Hummel doesn't play these games - I can think of 10 bizillion images he could shoot in the next 2 weeks that would just crush it.

Oh yeah, I had to do a second post in my MPC thread that just listed all the MPC results!

I don't know if they're gay, but the gays usually have pretty good gay-dar so if advres says they're gay, I'm gonna trust him

Well, you know, that all depends on whether he can get camera time during martian sunset, find some interesting foreground texture to compose the shot, or maybe a rover wheel, and use the robotic arm to articulate a GND while catching the last malpenglow on Mount Sharp

I was being facetious. Maybe a smilie was needed for you to catch that? Schralp seemed to get what I was saying just fine.

I understand that, but it seems to happen every thread. "may as well start a new one so-and-so, that's going to be the winner.". It's annoying and I was ornery.

Took this yesterday not knowing the topic, but I think it fits well enough with the ridge lines.
It's the view southeast from Mt. Aire through all the smoke.
