Little Cottonwood Canyon and Alta Ski Resort in Utah have been having quite the week. A natural avalanche inundated Alta's parking lot last week and the ski resort just surpassed 400 inches of snow this season, with eight new inches to top it off. These additional few inches kicked off a massive avalanche that came barreling over a cliffside across the street from Alta yesterday.

No one was injured in the slide, but the Utah Department of Transportation Avalanche team did close any backcountry skiing access in the area as well as the entire North side of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The river of snow, although beautiful, retains its splendor only because no one was caught. Stay safe in the backcountry; we aren't quite in true spring skiing conditions yet.
