Whistler Parking Meters Targeted by Credit Card Scammers

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) issued an warning after staff discovered 24 fraudulent QR code stickers plastered across parking terminals in Day Lots 1 through 5, Main Street, and the Marketplace lot. These stickers surfaced on December 27, 2025 and were designed to mimic PayByPhone signage but directed drivers to a fake website to harvest credit card data.
The town removed the fakes within 24 hours and urges anyone who scanned a code to cancel their cards. It’s a classic "quishing" (QR phishing) move that has hit other B.C. municipalities, but it hits a little different when you're just trying to get your boots on and hit the lifts.
The Gold Standard for Paying Up
Whistler is staying firm on their tech: The RMOW does not use QR codes for parking payment. If you see a sticker that looks like it can be peeled off, ignore it. Stick to the verified methods:
- Official PayByPhone app or website.
- Physical pay stations using card or coins.
- Calling the dedicated line at 1-866-234-7275.
