What Do You Think About The NPS Waiving Park Entrance Fees?
In response to the global COVID-19 crisis and in an attempt to ease social distancing, the National Park Service temporarily suspended park entrance fees to all open National Parks around the country. Many park facilities, including most visitor centers and lodges remain closed, but open areas should provide space for safe social distancing while enjoying fresh air and the outdoors. "This small step makes it a little easier for the American public to enjoy the outdoors in our incredible National Parks," said Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt in a press release, "Our vast public lands that are overseen by the Department offer special outdoor experiences to recreate, embrace nature and implement some social distancing."

While this may seem like a good idea to some, many local communities are worried about how this will bring in unnecessary, unwanted, and potentially dangerous numbers of tourists to communities with no emergency and medical infrastructure to support it. Moab, Utah has gone so far as prohibiting outside visitors from staying at campgrounds or hotels in order to allow locals to safely self-isolate.
