Warmer Weather Expected for Next Ski Season in New England

NOAA’s early forecast for Winter 2025-26 suggests warmer temperatures in the Northeast, potential snowfall in the PNW and Northern Rockies, and uncertainty across much of the U.S. ski map. Here's what skiers should expect next season.

Ski resorts across the U.S. and Canada are still spinning lifts for Winter 24/25, but at TGR, we're already eyeing what’s next.

NOAA’s long-range outlooks offer a first glimpse at what December 2025 through February 2026—the heart of ski season—might bring.

Right now, things aren’t looking great for the Northeast. NOAA’s outlook shows “Leaning Above” for temperatures in New England, hinting at the possibility of warmer conditions—often a recipe for rain thanks to the region’s low elevation mountains. Still, it’s far from a guarantee.

The warmth stretches from the Northeast down to the South, and westward into Utah and Southern Colorado—mirroring this past season’s underwhelming snow in places like Taos and Brian Head, where high pressure systems dominated.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest may once again be in line for a cold and snowy winter, thanks to La Niña. Resorts like Whitefish, Schweitzer, and Mt. Bachelor could see frigid mid-season temps.

Precipitation forecasts? Less helpful. NOAA shows “Equal Chances” across much of the country—meaning no strong lean toward wetter or drier than normal—except for pockets in the Northern Rockies and Midwest.

If this forecast holds, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming could be in for a stellar season.
