Video: Nic Von Rupp Takes on Spain’s Heaviest Slabs

In the European big wave surfing scene, one location looms far above the rest: Nazaré, Portugal. Home of the world's largest waves, it overshadows the region's other big breaks to such a degree that one could be forgiven for wondering if it's the Iberian Peninsula's only surf spot, However, Nic Von Rupp is here to prove that while Nazaré may be the biggest, there are plenty of other terrifyingly-large walls of water to ride in the area.

Joined by his former coach, pro surfer João Macedo, Von Rupp headed to one such place: Galicia, Spain. The duo, alongside surf pioneers Axi Muniain and Eric Rebier, managed to catch one of the season's heaviest swells. The Spanish barrels aren't as clean as their Hawaiian cousins, but that just makes surfing them all the more impressive.
