VANS’ ‘Angel Gone’ is an Ode to ‘90s Surf Edits

If you can look past the mom jeans, plaid clothing, and scrunchies the '90s did have a lot going for it. Thanks to the emergence of affordable film cameras, this decade coincided with a revolution in action sports filmmaking. Suddenly DIY films were all the rage, and sports like surfing especially benefited from this grassroots movement. These days, old school VHS surf films carry a particular kind of nostalgia, almost a reminder of much simpler times. VANS’ recent edit with Karina Rozunko is a nod to this formative decade. While there's nothing dated about Rozunko’s surfing, the short film feels like it was plucked straight from a rack at Blockbuster.
