Rob Machado Just Made this Grom’s Day

If Rob Machado’s accolades didn’t already stack up, add that he’s an exceptional craftsman to the list. The man knows how to make one hell of a surfboard. Despite already having an impressive quiver of boards, Machado set out to create something pretty special, a board for everything. Sculpting that perfect jack-of-all-trades board was a challenge too tempting for Machado to resist.

After finding the perfect shape and testing it out at Teahupo'o, he does what none of us expects: he gives it away. Not just to anyone, but toa local grom that’s ripping it up on the waves. Machado’s actions are ultimately a reminder that at the end of the day it’s not about the shape of the board, it’s about the memories you create with it. And I’m sure for that grom they’ll last a lifetime.

Surfing at Nazaré is a risky proposition, but the jetskiers responsible for towing surfers into waves can usually get them to safety post-wipeout. Sometimes things can get dicey, though, as seen in this video from Pedro Miranda.  Related: Jamie O'Brien Has a Close Call at Pipeline The clip shows 51-year-old big wave surfer Salvador Villas Boas taking a massive wipeout in one of Nazare's most dangerous zones. Video: Jamie O’Brien Has a Close Call at Pipeline

Jamie O'Brien has surfed Pipeline as much as just about anybody, but his recent wipeout proves that even pros need to stay on their guard. It was a solid day at the break, with manageable four-to-six foot high barrels. Unfortunately, Mr. O'Brien's day at the beach was cut short after slammed his head into either his board or the reef during a fall.  Related: Nathan Florence Gets Barreled on the North Shore After several seconds underwater, O'Brien's float suit brought him to the surface. Video: Surfing A Buttery-Smooth Storm Swell

This GoPro Award-winning video comes to us from four-time kitesurfing world champion Keahi De Aboitiz, who clearly is a pretty good normal surfer as well. He catches a beautiful right-hander during the storm swell from Cyclone Oma earlier this year. Somehow, he manages to dodge several people in the lineup for a 70-second ride.  Related: Surfer and Jetskier Narrowly Escape Disaster at Nazare De Aboitiz's camera comes equipped with GoPro's newest HyperSmooth technology, but the wave and his
