Red Bull Cape Fear Confirmed for Monday

Red Bull Cape Fear has long been considered one of the most unnerving big wave competitions—and it's finally back. The venue at Tasmania’s Shipstern Bluff is not for the faint of heart with its beast of a wave, jagged cliff lines, and plethora of sea creatures—particularly great white sharks. Mind you, surfers out here have to manage a wave that has "steps," which are smaller waves inside of an already 30-foot monster.

After a two-year hiatus, the big wave competition was rebooted thanks to a sizeable purple blob on the move in the South Indian Ocean. Red Bull greenlit the event for Monday in an Instagram post. In the meantime, 20 surfers—ranging from Nathan Florence to Mick Fanning—are on their way to Tasmania in hopes of bagging one of these burly slabs. Stay tuned for the live stream.
