‘Of the Sea’ Highlights Swimsuits Made from Plastic Waste

Discarded plastic bottles and old fishnets are more than trash to designer Katherine Terrell. Through her imagination, they become recycled swimsuits. Jeux De Vagues is a sustainable line of swimwear, created by Terrell, to address the alarming amount of plastic pollution in our oceans. The sassy swimsuits are made from ECONYL, a sustainable alternative to Nylon.

The short film Of the Sea is a beautiful insight into what inspired the brand. It also dives deep into Terrell’s incredible life as an entrepreneur, Vietnam-war refugee, and loving mother. Ultimately, Terrell hopes that these eco-garments can empower women to speak up about climate change—while looking incredibly fierce in the water.

Under normal circumstances, a big swell at Teahupo'o is heralded by the arrival of a significant portion of the world's professional surfers. When the sets start rolling in, there may be some locals in the lineup, but camera lenses are firmly focused on the big names. Cameras were still on the scene, but instead of superstars, they were
