Meet Yaya, the Surfing Mermaid of Cuba

This is a sweet mini-doc about Yaya, one of the first women to surf in Cuba, who also happens to be the National Dolphin Trainer. Not a bad claim to fame in our eyes.

Cuba has a small, but growing surf community that was born out of DIY roots. Yaya is only one of three women in the entire country who surfs—something she’s excited to help change as she spread her love for the sport in her home city of Havana. She told filmmaker Dean Saffron it’s not about ability as much as the roots we all love.
