Here we have Grant "Twiggy" Baker taking arguable one of the most savage wipeouts of the day. After everything looked like it would be a great ride, the wave actually began to suck Twiggy back up to the lip, causing him to free fall over twenty feet.

Nathan Fletcher was in his first Eddie after being called in as an alternate. The only Brazilian in the field, Fletcher was introduced to the terrifying realities of Waimea Bay during his first heat of the day, falling from the sky to water in short succession.
