The Cortes Bank is an underwater seamount that sits just below the ocean's surface, which creates one of the largest surfable breaks in the world. The break is located 100 miles off the coast of Southern California, so its pure isolation adds to the mystique and danger of surfing the Cortes Bank.
This past Friday, big-wave surfers Greg Long, Twig Baker, Alex Gray and Jojo Roper, along with a four-man safety crew journeyed overnight to Cortes. Watch as Long, who nearly died following a heavy wipeout at Cortes in 2012, returns to the beast to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to ride on mountains made of water.
